JOB SUMMARY
The Communications Coordinator-1 plays a vital role in supporting the communications department as well as provide strategic support for the HISD Press Office. This position requires excellent writing skills, experience managing social media, experience serving as a spokesperson, and providing on-camera interviews and statements. A combination of strategic thinking and the ability to drive results are a must. The Communications Coordinator is responsible for supporting departmental goals, developing, and implementing strategies, and coordinating the efficient and effective execution of press-related communications and initiatives.
MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Support the District's press office and media relations team in effective and successful communications initiatives and campaigns.
2. Write press releases, media statements, speeches, memoranda as well as reports and briefs communicating the District's goals and messages.
3. Work with social media team to coordinate coverage and highlight student and employee achievements on District platforms.
4. Coordinates development, implementation, and monitoring of two-way communication and community engagement strategies designed to improve communications with school communities regarding strategic initiatives and priorities.

5. Collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders to ensure alignment and effective communication of coordinated efforts.
6. Coordinates with team members to develop and deliver accessible, timely, relevant, educational, and engaging messaging and materials in all forms - internal and external, written and oral, printed and digital collateral, social media and website, and general outreach, including presentations, and community events that directly impact school communities.
7. Foster a positive and collaborative work environment, promoting teamwork, open communication, and professional growth.
8. Provide regular updates and reports to senior management and other stakeholders on departmental activities, achievements, and challenges.
9. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
EDUCATION
Bachelor's degree
WORK EXPERIENCE
At least 5 years working in communications role. Experience in education preferred.

LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES
Work Leadership. Regularly provides project management or team leadership to a group of two or more employees but does not have formal supervisory responsibility. Leading and directing is restricted to monitoring work and providing guidance on escalated issues. Most of work time is spent performing many of the same duties they are leading.

Work is substantially complex, varied and regularly requires the selection and application of technical and detailed guidelines. Independent judgment is required to identify, select, and apply the most appropriate methods as well as interpret precedent. WORKING/ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
Work is normally performed in a typical interior work environment but may include campus visits and local travel.
