Salary Range: $60K-70K

Type: Full-Time, 40+ Hours/Week

Location: Brooklyn, NY with some travel to Albany

Start Date: January 6, 2025 at the latest, earlier for ideal candidates

Summary Description

A Brooklyn-based New York State Assembly Member is seeking an experienced Communications Director to spearhead a full-scale communications operation for their Brooklyn and Albany offices. The ideal candidate will have vast experience in all/most of the following: press relations, drafting of communications, email blast management, social media planning and execution, & earned media.

Responsibilities

• Develop a full-scale plan for all aspects of communications for the Albany & Brooklyn offices, including but not limited to a message calendar, social media calendar, press calendar, email calendar, etc
• Serve as the contact person for press inquiries for the office and maintain strong press contacts for pitching stories and statements
• Draft all types of communications for the office, such as email blasts, social media posts, newsletters, press releases, op-ed, etc
• Lead social media planning and implementation, including maintaining a social media calendar, managing various social media channels, capturing the Assembly Member at events, developing content, and creating growth on social media
• Manage the office's Mailchimp account, including maintaining an email calendar, creating growth, drafting email blasts, and maintaining lists
• Consistently pitching stories and ensuring media coverage of press statements, events, rallies, etc

Experience & Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience with increasing levels of responsibility in communications roles, ideally in a government office or political campaign setting
• Demonstrated experience with managing full-scale communications planning and execution
• Deep understanding of social media and press relations
• Well maintained press contacts are a major plus
• Experience in graphic design is a plus
• Excellent written and verbal communications skills
• Must be able to travel to Albany during the legislative session
