The internship will develop a student's oral and written communication skills, and general career skills, and help build their portfolio under the direction of the Director and in collaboration with an award-winning school district communications professional team. Job Duties / Responsibilities
- Assist with writing and design for press releases, fact sheets, narratives, and special publications, including marketing material
- Support the District website with basic updates, posts, and migration work
- Assist with social media content creation and monitoring
- Develop communication pieces to promote District events, programs, achievements
- Provide multimedia support, including short videos and photography
- Assist with special event planning and preparation
- Support community outreach initiatives
- Assist with preparation of presentations, letters, and scripts
Education
- Registered College student majoring in communications, public relations, marketing, or journalism.
Experience / Knowledge
- Excellent writing and editing skills
- Knowledge of AP Style
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Products and Google Drive
- Experience in social media, website, and content management
- Experience using graphic design tools such as Canva, Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator
- Strong interpersonal communication and presentation skills
- Ability to consistently meet deadlines
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus
Physical Demands
Ability to work on a computer for a major portion of the day Ability to carry up to 20 pounds of camera equipment Frequently work at a fast pace with unscheduled interruptions Terms of Employment
- This is a temporary, paid position. Salary and benefits as established by the Board of Education.
- Must work on-site at School District U-46 Educational Services Center, 355 E. Chicago St., Elgin, and within our 90-square mile district for at least 25 to 30 hours a week between summer and
Mid-December 2023. Driver's license and access to a car required.
