Position Description
As our Communications Manager, you will strategically raise RefugeeOne's profile and build community support through media and communications. Reporting to our Director of Development, you'll engage people in our critical work through medica placements, creative print and online pieces, and speaking engagements.
Responsibilities
- Primarily, work to grow RefugeeOne's media presence – respond to inquiries as a spokesperson, build media relationships, and proactively place stories in strategic outlets
- Coordinate RefugeeOne's multichannel communications to weave key messages and branding into all communications, including but not limited to:
a. Tri-annual printed newsletters
b. Monthly brief email newsletters
c. Regular Facebook and Instagram posts
d. An agency-wide annual report
e. Event speeches and printed materials
- Collaborate with team members to find opportunities to share our story at speaking engagements, speak at events and equip other RefugeeOne representatives
- Help refugees who consent to share their stories with dignity and sensitivity
- Work together with colleagues to share advocacy opportunities that inspire action
- Keep our Wordpress website relevant and up to date
- Work with videographer to create an annual short video for spring benefit campaign
- Build relationships with RefugeeOne program staff to keep aware in order to adequately convey programs, opportunities, and needs to donors, prospects, and volunteers.
This job might be for you if:
- You have at least 5 years' experience in outwardly-facing professional roles representing an agency or in non-profit fundraising. You're confident in public speaking on behalf of an organization's brand.
- Your curiosity and creativity allow you to absorb complex information quickly and craft ways to share it that inspire people to action. You've honed speaking and exceptional writing skills to inspire and engage individuals.
- You understand how to echo messages across multichannel communications and get the most mileage out of stories and data, writing in a variety of styles and voices to match audience and channel needs.
- You're a clear and concise communicator. You establish and maintain good working relationships throughout the organization and with outside constituencies, including reporters, RefugeeOne program participants, senior leadership, and colleagues.
- You are organized, detail-oriented, and able to juggle multiple projects with tight deadlines. You have strong critical thinking skills and proactively solve problems.
- Your computer and technology skills include Microsoft Office Suite and Wordpress, as well as basic social media strategy. (Design and photography skills are a bonus!)
- You have passion for RefugeeOne's mission to help refugees build new lives of safety, dignity, and self-reliance – especially in the face of federal challenges. You are excited about working with team members who bring experience from around the globe.
Schedule: Flexible full-time schedule, M-F. Must be available some evenings and weekends for speaking engagements and special events. Some local day travel is required. Up to 2 days of work from home possible each week.
Salary: Range is $52,000 - $56,000, commensurate with credentials and experience. Generous benefits package including fully paid health, dental, vision, short-term disability, and life insurance.
