Its mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination.Job Objective:As the Community & Athletic Ministries Coordinator you will provide leadership and accountability for managing all aspects of recreational ministries. This position will develop, integrate, and evaluate a proactive and thorough schedule of programming and outreach opportunities to enhance the youth, athletic and recreational ministries experience. Additionally, this position is responsible for a variety of related community and departmental relations as well as resource/budget management and ensuring that the Mission of The Salvation Army is effectively carried out.What You Will Do:Manage the daily schedule of Fountain Square community center recreational ministries including (but not limited to): sports leagues, clinics, community-based activities, community center-based leagues and day events.Plan and manage the annual Summer Day Camp program, overseeing essential personnel and elements related to this program.Develop and manage the Fountain Square After-School program, overseeing essential personnel and elements related to this program.Develop and manage targeted Older Adult recreational ministries based on community demographics/needs.Develop and manage targeted young adult/adult recreational/athletic opportunities based on community demographics/needs.Develop and sustain productive partnerships with local agencies and institutions to meet the needs of the community through community center programming.Develop and work collaboratively on a continuing basis with schools, community groups, local colleges, and academic initiatives to cultivate partnerships.Work with Corps Officers (and be able) to communicate the needs and successes of the Fountain Square community center to schools, service clubs and and/or media.Create a healthy system of sports ministries opportunities, emphasizing holistic learning and development within these opportunities included but not limited to: self-efficacy, leadership, teamwork and problem-solving.Oversee the hiring, training, supervision, evaluation and necessary discipline of assistants/attendants, paid staff and volunteers who work in/for the Fountain Square Community Center.Execute and maintain existing recreational sports ministries; continually reassess the population for changes in demographics, interests, and needs, and develop new community center-based opportunities based on those findings that fulfill the needs of the Fountain Square community center.Develop, implement, and update promotional plans/materials for community center opportunities to ensure maximum community and member participation.Continually assess community center recreational ministries and improve on those respective opportunities as needed.Ensure that all activities and ministries are accessible and appealing to a diverse range of abilities, interests, and experiences.Evaluate the funding needs of community center opportunities on an ongoing basis.Ensure all expenditures for activities and ministries are approved by the Operations Manager.Develop and submit proposals for new community center opportunities for view and consideration by the Corps Officers.Work in an effective and timely manner with Operations Manager to oversee the presence of staff when the facility is being rented/utilized.Ensure compliance with policies and procedures of The Salvation Army in all activities, events, ministries, and opportunities and ensure appropriate risk management procedures are utilized at all times.Maintain computer-based calendars in relation to the community center; remain knowledgeable and proficient in technology and software updates and their applications within this referenced setting.Serve on approved Fountain Square Community Center/DHQ committees as needed.Provide a role model example for staff, members and program participants in ethical decision making, personal leadership, respectful communication, and sensitivity to difference/diversity.Be supportive of and exemplify the complete mission of The Salvation Army.Coordinate building usage with the Operations Manager.Ensure a healthy, safe, and productive environment for community center opportunities which follow all Safe from Harm guidelines.Maintain contact with external community and school groups, program members' parents and other groups to assist in resolving problems and to market and promote the Fountain Square Corps Community Center.Demonstrate and institute a knowledge of the following:Principles of Salvation Army guidelines and disciplines. o Principles of youth development.Community relations and brand management.Public speaking and presentation.Knowledge of information and technology systems.A working knowledge of service organizations/groups and community action teams in the Indianapolis area.Business communications.Resource management.Coordinate development opportunities for the after-school ministry involving the community computer lab.Help with transportation to/from summer camp and other Divisional events as needed.Assist with Fountain Square Red Kettle Campaign as needed, including but not limited to: bellringing/driver emergencies, counting kettles, managing kettle check-in/out procedures.Be involved and take leadership within the church. This includes Sunday worship participation and attending monthly Corps Council meetings.Other tasks as assigned by leadership.Minimum Qualifications:The requirements listed below are representative of the minimal education, experience, skills, and/or abilities required for this position.Education: A bachelor's degree in organized recreation/physical education (or related major) preferred or High School Diploma/GED required with at least four years of experience in related field.Background Checks: Position requires a background check to be completed, and all background check results will be reviewed.Experience: Four years' experience in organizing youth ministries and community center opportunities, athletic opportunities (e.g., events and leagues), along with experience and knowledge of fitness and/or exercise regiments.Certifications: Must have a valid driver's license and maintain The Salvation Army Driver's qualification standard; must complete Safe from Harm training within the first 90 days of employment.Skills/Abilities:Strong organizational skills and ability to effectively communicate electronically, verbally and in-writing are essential.The ability to write reports, to effectively present information and respond to questions from community groups, clients, customers, and the general public.Supervisory Responsibility:Position supervises Community Center paid staff and volunteer staff, including (but not limited to): Summer Day Camp staff, After-School program volunteers, etc.The physical requirements described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the duties of this job.Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals to perform the essential functions of this job.Physical Requirements Include:Good speaking, hearing and vision ability, and excellent manual dexterity.Lifting, pulling, and pushing of materials up to twenty-five poundsMay require bending, squatting, walking.May require standing for extendedTravel:Position may require occasional travel for training,events and community relations.Working Conditions:Work is performed in a typical office environment; may require some weekend and evening work.Realizing that The Salvation Army is a member of the Christian Church, employees are expected to conduct themselves in a professional manner and project a positive image consistent with the above mission statement.
