Nature of Work: Summary:This work involves assisting the Recreation Coordinator in the overall operation of recreation activities.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Competencies and skills:Essential:* Knowledge of the overall operation of the facility. * Knowledge of youth recreational and educational activities, both indoor and outdoor.* Knowledge of City policies and procedures regarding accidents and other incidents.* Knowledge of basic First Aid/CPR/AED.* Skill in operating a cash register and making correct change.* Skill in performing basic office duties and other community center functions.* Ability to prepare and maintain records and compile reports.* Ability to work effectively with all age groups that utilize our facilities.* Ability to communicate effectively with program participants and with co-workers.* Ability to understand oral and written instructions.* Ability to move around facility 75%-100% of the time.
Essential Functions: (Any one position may not perform all of the duties listed, nor do the listed examples include all of the duties that may be performed in positions allocated to this classification.)Detailed responsibilities:* Cleans and performs light custodial duties in and around the facility and grounds.* Assists the Coordinator in supervising subordinate employees.* Assists in ensuring facilities are free of safety hazards.* Assists injured patrons and resolves other difficulties with the public.* Orders, picks up, and distributes supplies and equipment.* Provides customer service and responds to inquiries and complaints.* Maintains daily records and inventory.* Secures the building according to specified procedures. * Conducts regular safety checks.* Takes reservations and collects fees, handling money as needed.* Performs other duties as assigned or as the situation dictates within the scope of this classification.* As well as the functions listed above, the following items pertain to the employees specifically assigned to: * ICE ARENA* Sharpens skates.* Operates equipment for ice, skates, and building.* LEARN TO SWIM PROGRAM* Receives training on providing swim lessons (no prior experience necessary).* Provides swim lessons for a variety of age and skill groups.
Special Qualifications: Other information:Must be a minimum of 15 years old.Must be able to work varied times, including weekends and holidays.
