Boulder County Parks & Open Space is seeking a liaison to build partnerships between our community and our department that increases equitable engagement and participation in a wide variety of the department's work. The Community Engagement Specialist will advance our commitment that open space is for everyone, and that visitors, volunteers, and staff reflect our community. This position will work directly with community members, partners, and stakeholders to expand relationships that enhance the use and stewardship of open space. The position will also work with staff and leadership to achieve more equitable and inclusive projects, programs, and services.This is a full-time, benefited position that will work Tuesday - Saturday 8 hours a day, times are flexible and work will require occasional evenings and weekends. This position will work out of the Parks & Open Space Headquarters located at 5201 St. Vrain Road, Longmont, Colorado. Under Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) guidelines, this position is exempt. Boulder County requires its employees to reside in the state of Colorado as of the first day of work.Hiring Salary Range: $62,520.00 - $76,284.00 Annually Tentative Hiring Timeline:

Examples of Duties
  • Assist the department in implementing the department's Cultural Responsiveness & Inclusion Strategic Plan (CRISP) to increase underserved communities' participation and equitable engagement with the department
  • Serve as a liaison to communities and organizations helping to foster and strategize effective relationships
  • Make connections and support department staff to co-create programs, and provide services, amenities, facilities, and resources that are inclusive, diverse, and equitable
  • Help create and pilot new models of engagement and partnerships to foster and sustain meaningful relationships and partnerships
  • Collaborate with other county departments and local agencies that serve underserved community groups
  • Working closely with our existing Community Engagement Specialist and Community Engagement Team to further the department's work
  • Assist staff to create opportunities for connections with historically underserved communities which include but are not limited to volunteer roles, advisory boards, etc.
  • Co-manage the department's arts programs, including public events, special projects, and the department's Artist-in-Residence program
  • Drive participants to park settings
  • Perform related duties as required
  • May be reassigned in emergency situations

    PRE-EMPLOYMENT PHYSICAL:
    • Candidates for this position will be required to successfully complete a pre-employment physical
    • The programming and events this position will run are all outdoors on Parks & Open Space properties. That requires hiking up to 3-5 miles. It also means carrying a backpack full of first aid supplies and other items. When they are at events they will need to lift outreach tents, tables, chairs, etc. They will also need to lift gear boxes which include outdoor recreation equipment.

    • Community outreach and organizing experience.
    • Champions efforts to engage historically marginalized community groups in all aspects of the department's work.
    • Organizational skills and ability to track budget expenses.
    • Ability to make public presentations and represent the department at community events.
    • Experience with event coordination, creating and managing public events.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills that include actively listening, emotional intelligence and an openness to co-creation and collaboration.
    • Ability to work effectively with public, volunteers, and other employees and agencies.
    • Skilled in identifying community assets and needs, building authentic relationships, and co-creation with diverse populations
    • Able to foster safe, inclusive environments that promote respect, collaboration, and reciprocity with communities from diverse backgrounds
    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
    • The physical requirements described below are representative of those that must be met by an applicant to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of this position. Work takes place in both an office setting and field setting with continuous interruptions and background noises. Must be able to work up to 4 hours outdoors, hiking open space trails. Frequent lifting up to 30 lbs. and carries up to 50 feet; frequent hand/eye coordination to operate computer keyboard, office equipment, and motor vehicle; vision for reading, recording and interpreting information; speech communication and hearing to maintain communication with employees and members of the public.
