Job Description :

The Community Navigator serves as a member of the Family Development Program of Cornell Cooperative Extension of Oneida County (CCEOC). The individual will deliver public education on the services offered by CCEOC's Family Development Program as well as the county's childcare assistance program. Education will take place throughout the community at off-site locations. The Community Navigator will work with community agencies to coordinate days and times to be on-site to meet with agency consumers. The Community Navigator will provide information to participants regarding other Extension programs, community agencies, and services as needed. This individual will appreciate and embrace diversity in all interactions with clientele, staff, volunteers, and the public.

Required Qualifications:

+ Associate degree or equivalent. GED/High School Diploma plus one year of transferrable program/functional experience is acceptable.

+ Experience relevant to the role of the position.

+ Valid NYS Driver's License and the ability to meet travel requirements associated with this position.

+ Ability to work flexible hours which may include evenings and/or weekends, as appropriate.

+ Ability and willingness to work with diverse audiences and maintain cultural sensitivity.

+ Ability to communicate effectively, clearly, and tactfully through verbal, written and electronic methods.

+ Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

+ Ability and willingness to work with a high degree of integrity, accuracy, organization, sound professional judgment, and the ability to handle confidential, sensitive information.

+ Proficiency with windows-based software including use of the internet and Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Publisher, and Excel.

Preferred Qualifications:

+ Familiarity with the community in which the work will take place.

+ Fluency in Spanish and/or other languages is highly desirable.

+ Experience working with the public.

Position Responsibilities and Essential Functions

Program Delivery - 80%

+ Utilize existing program materials and educational framework to educate the community on the county's childcare assistance program, quality early care and education, as well as program requirements.

+ Interact with community members always representing CCE in a professional manner.

+ Inform program participants of other Extension programs, community agencies, and services.

+ Interact with local health providers as well as prenatal providers to educate them on services.

+ Assist community members with childcare assistance application as part of program delivery, as needed.

+ Meet or exceed targeted education delivery goals assigned by the supervisor.

Administrative Program Evaluation - 5%

+ Implement program evaluation as designed.

+ Make recommendations to supervisor for program improvements.

+ Assist in communication of evaluation results and findings.

Administrative Coordination/Operation - 10%

+ Assist with coordination, compilation, and organization of existing program resources and program materials including newsletters and mailings.

+ Actively participate in meetings, trainings and conference calls as required or as needed

+ Perform general coordination activities including but not limited to attending staff meetings, timely reporting of expenses, working with other staff and general marketing of Extension programs.

+ Assist educators in maintaining communication with parents and the community through a variety of methods such as newsletters, e-mails, electronic technology, internet, social media, website postings, and content.

+ Work with local agencies (ie. The Center, libraries, Oneida County, etc) to coordinate days and times to be at their location to promote CCEOC services as well as childcare assistance program.

+ Attend and participate in community events as directed by supervisor.

+ Maintain confidentiality of participant information and data collected.

+ Compile, tally, and or format evaluation data from program participants.

+ Provide information as requested to assist with preparation of reports, impact statements, and success stories on program progress and accomplishments for funders, advisory committees, Board and others as necessary.

Professional Improvement - 5%

+ In cooperation with Supervisor and/or Executive Director, jointly develop and pursue a professional development plan as a means to increase competencies relative to position accountabilities and to address changes and Association priorities.

+ Participate in all required orientation, training, and/or in-service meetings and trainings as scheduled/required.

+ Pursue personal growth through expanding personal knowledge of the total organization and through updating techniques and technical skills relating to the position.

+ Collaborate in activities that are in general support of Cornell Cooperative Extension including but not limited to attendance at staff meetings, timely reporting of expenses, working with other staff, general marketing of Cooperative Extension programs and other duties as assigned.

+ Maintain regular and predictable attendance and punctuality.

Health and Safety - Applied to all duties and functions

+ Support the Association to maintain a safe working environment.

+ Be familiar with and strive to follow any applicable federal, state, local regulations, Association health and safety policy/procedure/requirement and standard.

+ Act proactively to prevent accidents/injuries and communicate hazards to supervisors when identified.

Position Details

This is a full-time (37.5 hrs/week), benefits eligible, non-exempt position. Compensation for this position is $19.50 per hour.
