COMMUNITY PROGRAMS COORDINATOR-HUBERT AND GRACE HARRIS CENTERDepartment: Parks and RecreationPay Grade: 111FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Personnel Status: Regular Full-TimeJOB SUMMARYThis position is responsible for coordinating recreational programming and other citywide special events. This position reports to the Community & Special Programs Administrator.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Plans, develops, and manages programming for citywide special events and programs.
  • Plans, develops, and manages programming for adults 50+.
  • Manages the daily operations of the Hubert and Grace Harris Center, including scheduling of personnel and programs.
  • Develops and monitors budgets and prepares and administers grants when appropriate.
  • Exercises direct supervision over assigned personnel.
  • Performs other related job duties as assigned.

Special Qualifications:
  • Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license for the type of vehicle or equipment operated. Requirement exists at the time of hire and as a condition of continued employment.
  • Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid CPR/First Aid certification within six months of employment.

  • Knowledge of special events programming.
  • Knowledge of senior population needs, activities, and programs.
  • Knowledge of safety requirements.
  • Knowledge of City and Department rules and guidelines, relevant laws, and program objectives.
  • Knowledge of budgeting practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of grant writing procedures.
  • Knowledge of personnel management and supervision.
  • Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs.
  • Knowledge of local government operations, policies and plans, and modern office practices and procedures.
  • Skill in using computers for data entry, word processing, and/or accounting purposes.
  • Skill in the use of small office equipment, including calculators, copy machines or multi-line telephone systems.
  • Skill in effective communication, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to train, supervise and evaluate the work of others.
  • Ability to coordinate a recreational activity involving several participants.
  • Ability to meet and deal with employees and the public in an effective and courteous manner.

PHYSICAL DEMANDSThe work is medium work, which requires exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Work is typically performed while intermittently sitting, standing, stooping, bending, crouching, or walking. The employee uses tools or equipment requiring manual dexterity, distinguishes between shades of color, and utilizes the sense of smell.WORK ENVIRONMENTThe work is typically performed in various indoor and outdoor environments, occasionally in cold, hot, or inclement weather. The employee is exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, machinery with moving parts, contagious or infectious diseases, irritating chemicals and occasional cold, hot, or inclement weather.
