The main function of this position will be to provide Court Security to the City's part-time, but busy, Municipal Court and to serve as a liaison between the Police Department and Municipal Court.The ideal candidate will be committed to the highest level of customer service and enjoy working as part of a team. The department is comprised of a 33 Commissioned Officers (Police Chief, 2 Assistant Chiefs, 7 Sergeants, 23 Police Officers) and 8 Non-Commissioned Officers (3 Community Service Officers, 3 Records Clerks, a Confidential Administrative Assistant, and a Child Passenger Safety Manager).In addition to the generous wage/benefits package the City offers the following premiums:
- Education: 2.5% for AA/AS, 5% for BA/BS

SUPERVISION RECEIVEDWorks under the general supervision of the Administrative Assistant Chief.SUPERVISION EXERCISEDNone Duties ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Performs court room security and bailiff duties;
- Organizes, coordinates and implements crime prevention programs and special community outreach activities for the police department;
- Actively responds to public's concerns and requests for service and information;
- Encourages public involvement and develops creative approaches to public safety;
- Coordinates neighborhood activities designed to promote public safety and improve neighborhood quality of life;
- Provides information to the public in order to assist them in problem resolution and recommends resources and solutions for crime prevention problems; directs public to the appropriate police unit(s) and/or other resources outside of the department;
- Plans, organizes, implements and speaks at various community outreach events to display and disseminate information on crime prevention;
- Plans, organizes and implements the Citizen Volunteer program;
- Participates in the coordination of Police Department's efforts to impact perceived and actual crime;
- Provides feedback to the department on community concerns and initiatives;
- Transports in custody prisoners to and from corrections facilities to court, may also transport in custody prisoners from field to correction facility;
- Intakes, processes and monitors property room;
- Performs basic forensic duties;
- Answers non-hazardous calls regarding selected law enforcement matters, may enforce selected local laws and ordinances, or request assistance as required;
- Takes minor case reports;
- Directs traffic at emergency or congested traffic areas or situations as needed;
- Serves subpoenas as assigned;
- Performs parking enforcement and abandoned vehicle abatement duties.
PERIPHERAL DUTIES
- May process vehicles and perform hulk removal;
- Serves as a member of various employee committees, as assigned.
Qualifications Education and Experience:
- Graduation from a standard senior high school or GED equivalent; and
- Graduation from Washington State Police Corrections and/or Reserve Police Officer Academy or state approved equivalent;
- Candidates who have not completed the Washington State Corrections and/or Reserve Police Officer Academy, or state approved equivalent, will be required to successfully complete the Washington State Corrections Academy at a minimum as soon as possible.
- Must be at least 21 years of age
- Must possess a Washington State Drive or ability to obtain one within one (1) month of hire and a driving record acceptable to the City's insurance.
Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of Police Department policies and procedures; knowledge of basic principles of public relations; knowledge of current crime prevention techniques; knowledge of community resources and appropriate methods of assessment; knowledge of personal computers and the various programs used; knowledge of and skill in developing and implementing public participation and communication programs, event plans and campaigns; and
- Skill in the operation of the listed equipment; and
- Ability to plan and organize workload to meet schedules and deadlines; ability to educate individuals and community groups regarding crime, crime prevention and the functions of the police department; ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others; ability to motivate and coordinate volunteers; ability to use appropriate interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy; ability to work as part of a team; ability to work a flexible schedule which may include evenings and weekends; ability to maintain standards of physical fitness and to physically perform the duties of the job; ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing.

- Education, training and experience related to law enforcement is preferred. Spanish/English bilingual skills highly desired.

- Valid Washington State Driver's License or ability to obtain one within one (1) month of hire and a driving record acceptable to the City's insurance. Must successfully complete an oral and written exam established by the Civil Service Commission; consent to a comprehensive background investigation prior to employment and meet the standards in those areas. SELECTION GUIDELINES
- Formal application; rating of education and experience; oral interview and extensive reference and background check; job related tests may be required.
- Applicants must successfully complete the interview with a passing score of 70%. Applicants will be considered in order of rank on the list. All City of Bonney Lake Community service Officers serve a probationary period of one year that shall be extended for the like amount of time that the employee is in attendance at the Basic Corrections Officer Academy and the Reserve Police Officer Academy.
- Medical: Medical coverage through the LEOFF Trust Plan F, which is a Preferred Provider Plan. Employees pay 5%/month towards the premium for all enrolled on the plan up to maximum of two dependent children (more be enrolled; however, there is no additional cost). The plan has a 90% coverage after a $200/family deductible has been met. There is a $10 co-pay for a 90-day supply for mail order generic prescriptions and up to $100 for brand name prescriptions. In addition, this plan has a rich benefit for individual paid retiree programs, which are offered to retirees upon their eligibility.

- Retirement: You will be required to enroll in the Washington Public Employee's Retirement System (PERS), but will have a choice between PERS Plan 2 or 3. In addition, Community Service Officers will be enrolled in the Washington Public Safety Employee's Retirement System (PSERS),

The core work week is forty (40) hours, Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., although many departments have implemented alternative schedules for those employees wishing to work a flex schedule.
