Salary : $48,000.00 AnnuallyLocation : Tyler, TXJob Type: Full-TimeJob Number: 00514Department: Adult ProbationOpening Date: 11/18/2024Summary/Objective The Community Supervision Officer must meet, at a minimum, the eligibility requirements for officers established under Section 76.005 of the Texas Government Code.CSCD employees are expected to use professional courtesy, discretion and sound judgment when engaging in any contact with clients, co-workers, court personnel and other employees and the public. CSCD Employees are further responsible for maintaining confidentiality of information, maintaining professional relations while engaging in job related tasks, cooperating with others to resolve conflict and achieve goals, and maintaining a pleasant attitude. Must be able to complete work accurately and independently. Cannot be employed as a peace officer or work as a reserve or volunteer peace officerCannot currently be on community supervision, parole, or serving a sentence for a criminal offense. Must dress professionally.Hours are 8:00 am - 5:00 pm Monday - Friday. Salary is $48,000.00 with a competitive benefits package. Although the Smith County Community Supervision and Corrections Department (CSCD) is affiliated with Smith County, CSCD employees are not county employees. Duties and Responsibilities
  • Overall responsibility of management of an assigned caseload.
  • Be familiar with current state laws, court directives, and Department policies and procedures and apply them to case management or other situations as they develop.
  • Completes all necessary actions for supervision of new cases including initial interview, explanation of conditions of probation, TRAS Assessments, supervision plans.
  • Conducts regular office visits, field visits, and jail visits as required by Department policy and as circumstances warrant.
  • Assists probationers with referrals for employment, education, classes, and counseling, etc.
  • Assures that all money owed by the probationer, as set forth in the Conditions of Community Supervision, is collected and properly recorded.
  • Uses all necessary tools of supervision available to the supervision officer such as electronic monitoring, urinalysis, office visits, field visits, contact with collateral individuals or agencies or any other condition ordered by the Court.
  • Transports probationers to/from treatment, restitution centers, county boot camps, etc. as required.
  • Monitors compliance/non-compliance and submits required reports to the District Attorney's Office and to the Courts.
  • Completes all required documentation as directed by Department policy and CJAD Standards on a timely basis.
  • Prepares and submits, on a timely basis, legal documents for the District Attorney's Office and the Courts which meet Department standards for accuracy and neatness.
  • Attends court as directed for hearings and provides testimony as required.
  • Assures that all information contained in the computer on all cases is current and entered in a timely manner.
  • Prepares reports as required by the Department, CJAD, or other agency.
  • Any other duties as assigned by the Supervisor or Department Director.
  • If assigned to a sex offender specialized caseload, will be required to do Halloween field visits.
  • Assist with CSO and UA tech duties as needed.
  • Monitoring the collection of urine from defendants for the purposes of drug and alcohol detection.

  • Must have strong organizational and prioritization skills
  • Must pass a background check.
  • Must complete a psychological evaluation and pass a drug test.
