Job Summary:

The Compliant Investigator reports directly to the University's Institutional Equity Officer and Title IX Coordinator. The Complaint Investigator will be responsible for the prompt, impartial and thorough investigation of allegations of protected-class based discrimination and harassment, and retaliation, in violation of the University's Non-Discrimination, Harassment Prevention, Title IX and other related anti-discrimination and anti-harassment policies. With input from the Institutional Equity Officer, the Complaint Investigator will work independently at every stage of the investigatory process, from intake, to interviewing complainants, witnesses, and respondents, to collecting evidence, to making credibility assessments, and to preparing verbal and written investigation reports that detail the findings of fact and conclusions of whether the University's policies have been violated. The Complaint Investigator will be responsible for providing verbal and written complaint and investigation summaries to the Institutional Equity Officer and other members of leadership on a need-to-know basis, for recommending interim measures to put in place while an investigation is being conducted where appropriate, and for performing other related duties as appropriate and as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree. At least three (3) years of experience in overseeing and coordinating all stages of investigations of harassment and discrimination or similar/comparable areas, from intake, to assessing preliminary obligations, to issuing findings or other similar comparable topics and recommendations, in a prompt, effective, and unbiased manner. Thorough knowledge of current federal, state, and local anti-discrimination and harassment laws. Excellent listening and analytical skills; work independently and make decisions with little oversight; strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to communicate directly with Upper Management/Leadership; strong attention to detail and organized, ability to manage multiple projects and/or investigations simultaneously in a timely and efficient manner; work collaboratively with multiple departments across the campus and hospital; be respectful of confidentiality/privacy and have discretion in information sharing

Preferred Qualifications

5+ years of experience conducting investigations and knowledge of federal and state laws prohibiting discrimination and harassment, such as Title VII, Title IX, the ADA and the NYS Human Rights Law. Knowledge of the disciplinary process in a unionized work environment. Investigation experience in employment or education; managing, developing, and implementing training programs on harassment or discrimination in employment or education; experience in overseeing and managing timely implementation of training and actions in response to findings of harassment and discrimination; creating and/or updating policies and procedures relating to diversity, inclusion, harassment, discrimination, and/or affirmative action; experience with training on trauma informed interview techniques; experience in Title IX and Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) compliance. Experience working in a higher education or health care setting; Human resources experience in the State University of New York (SUNY) System. Experience utilizing Maxient or similar case management software
