SUMMARY

Responsible for overseeing and monitoring the implementation of a Compliance Program for assigned health service through the coordination of various functions and roles of the Compliance team. Works with senior leadership and members of the organization's team to ensure system-wide consistency in the development, implementation, monitoring and reporting of compliance activities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

* Serves as the Compliance Officer for assigned service area(s).

* Serves as a member of the Compliance team.

* Plans, develops and implements a Compliance Program that promotes prevention, detection, and resolution of instances of conduct that do not conform to federal and state laws, federal, state and private payor healthcare program requirements, as well as the organization's policies / guidelines.

* Establishes and maintains compliance plan based on identified risks to promote program effectiveness for assigned service area(s).

* Provides periodic reports on compliance activities and other relevant information for assigned service area(s) to the Vice President of Compliance.

* Oversees the Privacy and Security Officer functions in compliance with established standards and regulations.

* Supports the use of external legal services for the purpose of compliance and regulatory activities, as needed.

* Works collaboratively with enterprise risk management for gathering and analysis of information as requested.

* Collaborates with other departments (i.e. Finance, Human Resources, Operations, IT/IS, QA, etc.) to direct compliance issues to appropriate existing channels for investigation and resolution.

* Promotes a positive image of the organization through active participation in State and National associations and committees.

* Promotes a positive image of the organization by exhibiting servant leadership and providing direct and open lines of communication.

* Assists with the development of compliance best practices in conjunction with compliance team.

* Identifies opportunities for system consistency and risk mitigation related to compliance and provides recommendations to Vice President of Compliance and the compliance team.

* Supports in the development of Compliance policies/guidelines, reports, and auditing /monitoring strategies.

* Coordinates and oversees the policy / guideline governance process for assigned service area(s).

* Contributes to shared governance model through collaborative efforts, including but not limited to participation in committees, workgroups, and projects within the organization.

* Functions as an advanced user of the compliance software database including guideline maintenance and compliance reporting.

* Provides timely reporting of compliance issues to service area leadership.

* Participates in compliance team meetings and projects.

* Assists in the development of an effective compliance-training program, including appropriate introductory training for new associates and ongoing training for associates and supervisors.

* Promotes the image and reputation of the System by exhibiting servant leadership and providing direct and open lines of communication.

* Contributes to the work of committees, workgroups, project management, and other collaborative efforts of the System.

* Performs other duties as necessary to ensure the success of the System.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

* Demonstrates leadership and excellent communication skills

* Demonstrates sound judgment

* Strong working knowledge of the healthcare industry

* Strong understanding of HIPAA

* Familiarity with operational, financial, quality assurance, human resources, legal procedures and regulations

* Knowledge of compliance laws, rules and regulations governing patient care and treatment and related services or activities

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

* Bachelor's or Master's degree

* Certified in Health Care Compliance preferred or obtains within determined time frame.

* At least 5 years of applicable professional experience, with at least two (2) years of experience within the area of healthcare compliance
