Posted Job Title Compliance Manager, Office of Animal Welfare Job Profile Title Associate Director D, Animal Health Job Description Summary The Office of Animal Welfare upholds the University of Pennsylvania's commitment to ensuring the utmost standards of animal welfare in research, testing, and teaching. The Compliance Manager, reporting to the Director of Animal Welfare Programs and Operations, is tasked with upholding quality assurance standards for the IACUC and overseeing the professional and administrative staff within the Office of Animal Welfare. This includes ensuring that all animal-related activities adhere to the mandates of governing bodies. The Compliance Manager will remain abreast of and assess challenging, high-risk scenarios to provide proactive guidance and leadership to the broader research community at Penn. Serving as a senior-level liaison and subject matter expert, they will engage with research investigators, IACUC leadership, and other University research support offices. Additionally, the Compliance Manager will aid the Director in formulating business-related metrics and long-term strategic planning initiatives to enhance services. Demonstrated organizational, management, and communication skills are imperative for success in this role. Please note: Occasional travel to Kennett Square for IACUC-related business is required. Job Description Job Responsibilities Supervise direct reports, including hiring and performance management. Aid and advise Director with formulating business-related metrics and long-term strategic planning initiatives to enhance services to research community at large. Audit and quality assurance (i.e., post-approval monitoring, IACUC semiannual inspections). Creates and institutes practices to improve the efficiency of IACUC inspections, post-approval monitoring program, and faculty support. Develop and implement regulatory research education and training for administrative staff, IACUC committee members, etc. Assists in the composition of regulatory annual reports and communications with regulatory and accrediting agencies and University offices. Qualifications Bachelor's degree and 5 to 7 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Master of Science in a biomedical-related field preferred. CPIA certification or eligibility preferred. Two years in a supervisory capacity required. Strong communication, interpersonal, writing, and information technology skills are required. Serve as a senior-level liaison and subject matter expert. A faculty-oriented, customer service approach is paramount, demonstrating an ability to work effectively and diplomatically in a professional manner as well as to develop strong relationships and trust internally with faculty, their staff and University administrative staff. Ability to independently prioritize workload and to manage projects and complex tasks unsupervised; flexible when working under time-constraints. Excellent organization skills with the ability to work effectively under pressure, prioritize critical tasks and meet deadlines. Ability to maintain confidentiality of information and documents utilizing judgment, diplomacy, and discretion.
