Posting Details General Statement of Job General Statement of Job The Computer Services Specialist installs, repairs, and maintains computer hardware, peripherals, and software throughout the college and provides support to other computer services specialists. Specific Duties and ResponsibilitiesSpecific Duties and Responsibilities Installs, repairs and performs maintenance of computer hardware, peripherals and software. Performs wiring installation and moves/setups, as assigned. Provides development of working solutions and carries out work orders and assigned tasks. Assists with desktop images and other critical local desktop enterprise agent software, including Sentinel One, Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager (MECM), Deepfreeze and other related desktop enterprise software. Coordinates and assists with move requests; assists with faculty, staff, and computer lab relocations. Performs projects and tasks assigned by the IT Operations Manager and/or the Computer Services Analysts. Installs and maintains specialized departmental software. Must be available for on-call duty on a 24x7 basis as requested by management. Keeps current on trends and developments in computer and network hardware and software. Serves on the Change Management Committee periodically. Travels throughout the college district as needed. Serves on virtual teams for a variety of projects. Performs other duties as assigned. At least three (3) years of work experience in a related field required. Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills. Strong computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office including, but not limited to, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, the Windows environment, and internet research skills. Familiarity with personal computers and networking, especially with Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 10, Macintosh OS, and TCP/IP. Knowledge of encryption tools and virtualization solutions. Ability to adapt to constant change and periods of fast-paced, high-intensity work situations. Ability to work evenings and/or weekends as needed; ability to travel throughout the college district using own means of reliable transportation. Demonstrated commitment to achieving the vision and mission of South Texas College. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. CompTIA A and Network certifications required or must be obtained within 12 months of hire. Physical Requirements Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling while walking, standing or crouching on narrow, slippery, or erratically moving surfaces. The amount of balancing exceeds that needed for ordinary locomotion and maintenance of body equilibrium. Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms. Body agility is emphasized. Moving about on hands and knees or hands and feet. Perceiving attributes of objects, such as size, shape, temperature or texture by touching with skin, particularly that of fingertips. Picking, pinching, typing, or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand as in handling. Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm. Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction. Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication and to make the discrimination in sound. Bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knee or knees. Raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position-to-position. Occurs to a considerable degree and requires substantial use of upper extremities and back muscles. Ability to make rational decisions through sound logic and deductive processes. Using upper extremities to exert force in order to draw, haul or tug objects in a sustained motion. Using upper extremities to press against something with steady force in order to thrust forward, downward or outward. Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction. Substantial movements (motions) of the wrist, hands, and/or fingers. Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word including the ability to convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately and concisely. Standing particularly for sustained periods of time. Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist. Occurs to a considerable degree and requires full motion of the lower extremities and back muscles. Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word including those activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly. Have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; and/or extensive reading. Including color, depth perception, and field vision. Visual Acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned or to make general observations of facilities or structures. Have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, operation of machines; using measurement devices; and/or assembly or fabrication parts at distances close to the eyes. Mobility to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another.
