Position Description

A Republican Member of Congress seeks a Congressional Caseworker for his office in Richland, Washington. The Caseworker plays an important role by serving as a liaison to the federal government on behalf of the Member's constituents. The Caseworker will handle a portfolio of issue areas, including but not limited to Agriculture, Immigration and the State Department, IRS, and Veteran's Affairs on behalf of the Member.

The Caseworker will also work closely with the Senior District Representative, Deputy Chief of Staff, and other legislative staff to provide outstanding service to the Member's constituents.

Job Duties:

  • Serves as a liaison with federal government entities for individual constituent concerns.
  • Maintains constituent casework in assigned areas of expertise.
  • Monitors and updates the Member, Senior District Representative, and Deputy Chief of Staff on casework trends.
  • Prepares and manages incoming and outgoing correspondence in assigned areas of expertise in a timely manner.
  • Maintains accurate and complete files on all assigned casework matters.
  • Monitors, screens, and refers cases, when appropriate, to other government entities.
  • Actively builds working relationships with private and governmental agencies, advocacy organizations, major employers, universities and colleges, chambers of commerce and other key constituent groups.
  • Identifies opportunities to cultivate and/or strengthen relationships with the community.
  • Attends town hall meetings, mobile office hours, speaks with local groups, and meets with constituents on behalf of the Member and other staff.
  • Acts as a liaison to local, state, and federal officials and agencies where appropriate.
  • Collects information on area/community events, fairs, fests, competitions, city/county events.
  • Handles other duties as assigned by the Congressman, Chief of Staff, and/or Deputy Chief of Staff.

Preferences:

  • Bachelor's degree in government, political science, social work, social science, or related field or commensurate experience.
  • Experience in agency related to casework (e.g., VA for veterans' caseworker opening; USCIS for immigration caseworker opening).
  • A demonstrated interest in public service.
  • Working knowledge of Central Washington.
  • Experience with military and/or veterans issues preferred.

  • Be (i) admitted as a refugee under 8 U.S.C. § 1157 or granted asylum under 8 U.S.C. § 1158 and (ii) have filed a declaration of intention to become a lawful permanent resident and then a citizen when eligible
  • Owe allegiance to the U.S. (i.e., qualify as a non-citizen U.S. national under federal law)
