The Construction Coordinator will support the Construction Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations of all ongoing substation and transmission line projects, from pre-construction activities through energization. Will be responsible for managing the on-site construction, quality, safety, and schedule of all ongoing projects. This position will need to be able to read, interpret, and enforce specifications and construction drawings, and troubleshoot various construction issues that arise in the field.Must be able to adjust for changing priorities as needed with the ability to overcome challenges, such as unforeseen material issues and outage limitations. This position is key to ensuring that all projects are completed on time and safely while adhering to WETT's construction specifications and meet or exceed all regulatory requirements. This position can be located in Big Spring but will largely be required to work remotely, traveling to numerous construction job sites within the Dickens/Midland/Sterling City area daily. This position will be issued a company truck to facilitate travel as required. This position will report to the Manager of Construction.Responsibilities/Essential functions
- Assist in the construction oversight of WETT transmission and substation projects from design though energization, including material procurement, construction, and commissioning.
- Ensure timely communication and reporting with project stakeholders. Maintain observation reports/logs including but not limited to work description and work methods of EPC Contractors on site, weather conditions, observations, photos, etc.
- Monitor construction schedules and initiate discussions on corrective actions as needed to ensure the project remains on schedule.
- Anticipate and identify problems that may cause construction delays.
- Review and provide input and oversight for all requested field modifications and change orders.
- Work with the construction contractors and WETT Commissioning Lead to coordinate the submission of outage request and execution.
- Displays sound professional judgment related to construction-related decisions.
- Provide technical direction and guidance to WETT contract personnel assigned to individual projects.
- Work with the team to performs walk downs and inspections of installed facilities to ensure conformance with WETT's design and construction specifications as well as final QA/QC.
- Lead the on-site efforts involved in testing, commissioning, and energizing newly constructed facilities.
- Assists in the coordination of revising design and construction specifications as necessary with Project Engineers.
- Support Maintenance and Operations with Maintenance Capital Projects, providing Health and Safety and technical support as needed.
- Assists in the efforts in securing necessary permits and crossing agreements for all new projects.
- Attend project status meetings with contractors and vendors.
- Assures compliance with WETT's Health, Safety, Security and Environmental standards and policies.
Essential Knowledge & Skills/Education
- Minimum of 3 years of combined experience in construction of large-scale high voltage transmission line and or station projects.
- An understanding of industry design and construction standards and methods typical for 138 kV and 345 kV transmission and substation projects.
- Ability to read, interpret, and enforce construction drawings and specifications.
- Thorough understanding of industry construction practices and methods typical for 138 kV and 345 kV transmission and substation construction.
- Experience erecting lattice and tubular steel structures.
- Experience installing steel reinforced drilled prier foundations, including unique installation methods using slurring, casing, and grouting.
- Experience stringing and clipping conductor and OPGW.
- Ability to understand and recognize outage needs.
- Knowledge of applicable electrical and civil construction code requirements, including NESC, NEC, and ACI.
- Excellent verbal and written communication with the ability to communicate construction progress and issues.
- Ability to articulate complex, technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Capable of planning, scheduling, prioritizing, and coordinating work based on project and company needs.
- Ability to adjust to changing priorities of multiple projects.
- Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment.
- Ability to interface with landowners as needed to ensure the project remains in good standing with all affected landowners.
- Health and Safety training, including OSHA 30hr Construction Certification and CPR/FIRST Aid Certification.
- Experience with Safety Risk/Barrier Analysis is preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of standing, walking, and kneeling on uneven terrain.
- Prolonged periods of driving to multiple job sites in a single day.
- Must be able to work outdoors during varying temperature extremes.
- Must be comfortable working in and around active construction sites with potentially hazardous equipment.
- Must be able to work prolonged hours as construction demands warrant.
