Job Summary:

Identify potential projects to bid on and estimate the cost of work on projects by completing quantity take-offs and gathering proposals from subcontractors, blueprints, specifications, and related documents. This position requires an experienced Estimator who will create detailed and competitive bid packages for current and upcoming project opportunities. Understanding the process of preparing estimates, negotiating delivery methods, and the ability to communicate effectively in a fast-paced construction industry to our diverse client base is critical.

Project Estimator Key Responsibilities:

  • Seek out potential project opportunities that are in line with our core competencies.
  • Communicate with prospective and current clients providing customer service from the Estimating department.
  • Preparing project estimates by gathering proposals, blueprints, specifications, and related documents.
  • Analyze drawings, specifications, and other documentation to prepare comprehensive cost estimates and take-offs by identifying labor, material, and time requirements.
  • Create project budget and portfolio for thorough Project Manager hand-off.
  • Maintain and source best value and diverse subcontractors/suppliers/resources.
  • Acts as a resource to project management during the award/start-up phase to clarify any issues regarding what was considered in the estimate, including materials and methods of construction.
  • Review budget and project profitability status and goals with supervision and project team as required. Seeks input on corrective measures to improve the identification and accuracy of cost figures continuously.
  • Acts as a resource for project management by providing cost information and developing cost estimates for changes in the work during different construction phases.
  • Participate in project post-construction reviews.
  • Conduct close-out meetings and client satisfaction surveys.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Excellent time management skills
  • Strong Computer aptitude. Must be proficient in Procore, Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Extensive knowledge of reading blueprints, plans, specifications, contracts, quotes, purchase orders, change orders, etc.
  • Extensive knowledge of City, County, and municipality requirements (i.e., Standard Plans and Specifications)
  • Understand means and methods of construction associated with underground utilities, grading, demolition, and civil engineering construction.
  • Has a working knowledge of the cost of goods and services.
  • Understand the sequencing of work and the strategy for creating effective project schedules.
  • Strong negotiating skills

  • Required: 5 years of verifiable estimating experience

· Desired: 10 years of verifiable estimating experience.

· Desired: Experience estimating for PLA/PW projects.

· Desired: Knowledge of NAVFAC/NAVAIR contracting

· Required: High School Diploma or GED equivalent

· Desired: Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field

· Required: Successful candidates must pass the following pre-employment requirements prior to beginning employment: background check.
