Once a summary page appears, hover your mouse over the orange Action button for a list of possible approval step options.Position Information Position Title Construction Lab Coordinator Status Full Time Job Summary Under the direct supervision of the Construction Science & Management SM Department Head, the Construction Lab Coordinator coordinates and oversees the entire TSACS/CSM Construction Lab facility, including, but not limited to, the materials, equipment, and tools stored within.Essential Job Duties
  • Instruct and monitor all students, faculty, and other authorized users the safe operation of equipment and tools
  • Ensure proper safety guidelines are followed
  • Conducts orientations and certifications prior to the use of equipment and tools
  • Maintain records of these activities and verifies all users have been trained prior to the use of equipment or tools
  • Collaborate with the CSM Department Head to ensure that students a supervised at all times by a competent, experienced adult (non-student who has a strong understanding of construction safety practices, risk identification and mitigation
  • Maintain and conduct minor repairs on tools, equipment and vehicles Coordinates larger service repairs with vendors
  • Maintain maintenance logs for high value equipment and tools
  • Catalog tools and equipment and provides a system to check tools and equipment in/out
  • Collaborate with the CSM Department Head to provide safety training on construction activities conducted at the construction lab
  • Responsible for daily cleanup of the construction lab spaces, equipment and tools. Organizes cleanup of active spaces in consultation with faculty and students
  • Assist faculty and students with the setup and takedown of labs, equipment, and tools
  • Maintain and manage parking facilities so that students and faculty have access to parking when needed
  • Consult with CSM Department Head, TSACS faculty and staff on scheduling construction lab activities and space allocation
  • Prepare and place material orders in consultation with CSM Department Head and TSACS faculty
  • Coordinate work activities with CSM Department Head and TSACS faculty. Seek input and direction on issues regarding material removal/disposal, parking needs, visitors, and scheduling
  • Assist with activities (such as service learning) outside the construction tab as requested by the CSM Department Head and/or TSACS faculty
  • Train and assign student workers to assist in essential functions
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications (Education, Experience and Specialized Training)
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Bachelor's degree preferred
  • State of AL Contractor's License (Residential/Commercial) preferred
  • OSHA 30hr Safety Certification
  • 8+ years of experience within the construction industry
  • When a candidate has the required education: but lacks the required experience, they may normally apply additional appropriate education toward the experience requirement, at a rate of one (1) year relevant education per year of required experience
Physical Demands
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment
  • Ability to walk short distances
  • Ability to lift and carry parcels, packages and other items
  • Ability to view a computer terminal; extensive reading
  • Ability to lift at least 10 pounds
