Responsibilities include investigating complaints and reviewing form filings; gathering information; reviewing for regulatory compliance; and making decisions and/or recommendations. Work is performed under general supervision.Primary responsibilities include:
- Investigating complaints, as well as handling inquiries and requests from the general public, agents, insurance companies and otherstakeholders to enforce compliance with Maine laws and regulations and to attempt resolution or recommend the most appropriate course of action.
- Reviewing life and health insurance contracts, endorsements, riders, applications, advertising and amendment form filings for compliance with laws and regulations.
- Educating the public about rights under insurance law and contracts, during phone and email inquiries, walk-ins and outreach events.
- Contacting outreach event organizers, ensuring registration fees are paid and all logistics completed. Assisting in the preparation of brochures and other materials for outreach events.
- Performing all other day-to-day Bureau operations needs as assigned by CHCD management. This includes clerical work such as answering phones, copying/scanning, scheduling appointments/meetings for management staff. Assigning workloads to staff in accordance with CHCD policies and procedures.

- Knowledge of applicable agency laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Knowledge of available assistance agencies. Knowledgeable and proficient in Outlook, Word and Excel.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Ability to communicate effectively.

- Ability to accomplish tasks effectively and efficiently.
- Ability to interpret and explain applicable laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.

- Ability to organize and document work products properly.
Minimum qualifications:A four (4) year combination of education and experience of an investigative or public relations nature involving consumer complaints or assistance including analyzing data and making recommendations for dispute resolution.Preference will be given to those applicants:Experience preferred but not required includes billing, claims, physician office insurance determination and authorization, knowledge of the health care system, employee benefits, interpret contracts/law, and/or insurance background.
