Cover letter required.NATURE OF WORK: Provides creative and design support to organizational marketing and communications initiatives. Supports a variety of design and video projects initiated by or tasked to the marketing communications department, ensuring each is executed for optimal results while upholding the VFW brand. Supports VFW's digital presence and strategies through content creation, including graphic design, videography and photography while identifying additional opportunities to increase VFW's exposure. Also provides design support to VFW Departments and Posts. VFW membership in good standing or VFW member-eligibility has preference. TYPICAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Content Creation:
  • Designs and develops compelling and persuasive optimized content for various digital and social media channels.
  • Designs and develops website and newsletter imagery, digital graphics, and print collateral.
  • Shoots, edits, and produces video, animation and motion graphics.
  • Maintain and operate camera equipment to shoot both video and photos, edit select footage, and stay up-to-date with all new technological advances.
  • Provides photo and/or video coverage for VFW events and programming.
  • Produces images, graphics, memes, gifs, infographics, etc.
  • Authors captions, information and other short-form pieces in support of marketing/communications projects.
  • Illustrates concept ideation to stimulate and disrupt social norms while maintaining the brand's tone and voice.
  • Collaborates with stakeholders, business partners and vendors to ensure all messaging.
  • Works cooperatively with marketing communications team to help guide strategy through imagery.
  • Create opportunities to enhance the brand and messaging efforts.
Innovation:
  • Creates organic content to support digital marketing efforts.
  • Ensures technology is effectively utilized to meet stakeholder, partner and VFW's organizational needs.
Social Media Support
  • Works to support all social media strategies and projects.
  • Adheres to networking strategy as it applies to the public, business, media and political figure interaction.
  • Assists with research and the administration of postings and monitoring in accordance with communications' standards.
  • Evaluates current strategies and suggests improvements as appropriate.
VFW Websites:
  • Produces web-optimized content.
  • Performs content updates as needed.
Annual Events (Convention, Legislative Conference(s))
  • Seeks out and implements new supporting technology.
  • Provide video and photo coverage of various events in cooperation with VFW staff and contract photographers.
  • Assists in researching speaker and award recipient's background/nomination; writing, revising and formatting official script book and supporting copies.
  • Distributes daily event highlights, photos and videos as needed.
  • Coordinates with on-site photographers, videographers, and digital marketing and communications teams as appropriate.
Internal Support
  • Assists Senior Director and Assistant Directors in preparing presentations, proposals and statements to senior leadership.
  • Ensures all VFW material is consistent with branding and messaging standards.
  • Prepares cross-platform analytics and distribution reports as requested.
  • Understands current veteran and military issues and knows VFW's position.
  • Assists in the copywriting for company literature, marketing and promotional materials.
  • Maintain photography/videography library.
  • Assists in evolving VFW brand identity.
Press
  • Proofs VFW-authored press releases, public statements and national communications.
  • Assists in producing and distributing news media packages.
  • Works with staff to coordinate public relations events.
QualificationsKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
  • Bachelor's degree required. Graphic design, marketing or related degree preferred. In lieu of a bachelor's degree, 4 or more years military experience in a similar military occupational specialty (MOS) has preference.
  • Superior experience in Adobe products, video editing and design software.
  • Demonstrated experience in graphic design and video editing.
  • Knowledge of social media technical functionality and best practices.
  • Web content management systems (Sitecore experience a plus)
  • Experience and skills with marketing communications techniques.
  • Excellent verbal, written and communication skills.
  • Ability to think creatively and critically in problem-solving and project implementation.
  • Able to work independently or as a team, manage workflow, and set priorities.
  • Proven organizational and multi-tasking skills; detail oriented.
  • Superior interpersonal skills and knowledge of social consciousness.
SCOPE OF POSITION:
  • Reports to the Assistant Director of Creative, Marketing and Communications.
  • Works to improve VFW's online presence and the digital experience associated with its many communications and marketing tools, and resources, through audio and visual content.
  • Interacts with VFW leadership, members, donors, business partners, the public and media, serving to provide high quality service.
  • Must have a superior understanding of department facets, the VFW brand and messaging.
  • Supports a high-quality online experience.
  • Provides support and/or leads projects involving digital visual/audio development.
  • Supports all functions of the marketing communications department.
  • This is an FLSA non-exempt position.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • The position will be based at the VFW headquarters, with hybrid remote opportunities.
  • Occasionally requires work outside of normal business hours.
  • Occasional travel for meetings, annual convention and events related to communications and marketing efforts is required.
