Job Description :
We are seeking an early career engineering graduate to fill the role of Contractor Monitor. Reporting to the Technical Manager, the Contractor Monitor will be responsible for overseeing the activities of construction contractors who are performing work at our facilities and will be tasked to ensure that health, safety & environmental standards are strictly followed. The Contractor Monitor also monitors the construction progress to verify that quality workmanship is maintained at all times and in accordance with applicable construction procedures, methods, codes and specifications. Projects will include civil, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation & control engineering disciplines. For the right candidate this is an excellent opportunity to enter the renewable energy industry. This position will involve a large amount of field technical work, will include stretch assignments on projects with growth opportunities to become a Project Manager at Brookfield.ResponsibilitiesMonitor construction activities to ensure design, specifications, and contracts are followed and that work is done according to schedule and within budget;Ensure contractors, sub-contractors and their employees are complying with safety & environmental regulations and requirements of the contract;Attend pre-bid and preconstruction meetings, documenting minutes;Prepare job planning documentation working closely with project stakeholders;Provide inspection of all work in place to ensure that work performed is in accordance with the contract drawings, specifications, regulatory requirements and applicable codes;Prepare and submit daily construction reports, reporting on health & safety, environmental, and construction progress;Recommend corrective courses of action to management as issues arise;Recommend changes in the work plan if efficiencies in work practices can be improved;Assess the quality of the safety & environmental discussions and written daily job plans;Conduct Safe Work and Environmental Observations on medium and high risk work;Attend all Contractor's Health, Safety and Environmental Meetings;Conduct contractor post-work evaluations in regards to health and safety, environmental, technical, project management and financial performance.RequirementsAn interest in renewable energy production, specifically hydroelectric power;A desire to work in the field in different environments and a variety of contractors;Basic knowledge to be able to inspect in-progress construction work to ensure compliance with the contract documents, specifications, permits, and drawings;Ability to organize, plan, prioritize and manage multiple tasks and projects;Good oral, written and interpersonal skills with the ability to interface and coordinate work on a daily basis with other Brookfield divisions and external organizations;Good negotiation skills with clients, contractors, and vendors;Strong project management and organizational skills;Ability to work independently and with minimal daily supervision;A practical, adaptable, innovative, collaborative, and solution-focused approach to issues.QualificationsBachelor of Science Degree in Civil, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering;Strong computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office products.AssetsExperience in engineering or construction management;Experience/exposure in the hydropower, wind power or power generation fieldField experience related to the hazards associated with the work;Training in occupational health & safety and environmental regulation;This position requires the successful candidate to have a valid driver's license. A motor vehicle report (MVR) that shows driving history, including information about your driver's license, will be required if you are selected as the successful candidate.Pay: $70k-95k/yr.
