Senior Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) Engineer

Location: Tampa, FL

Employment Type: Full-Time

**No Corp to Corp**

Onsite Required - Must be a United States Citizen

Position Overview:

We are seeking a Senior Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) Engineer with extensive experience in designing, developing, and implementing instrumentation and control systems for chemical, refining, petrochemical, and specialty chemical plants.

This role entails leading comprehensive engineering design, developing instrumentation and control specifications, and ensuring compliance with industry standards and client requirements.

The ideal candidate possesses a strong background in Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) and Digital Control Systems (DCSs), process control philosophy development, and field implementation. This position demands technical leadership, project coordination, and the ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Key Responsibilities:

Instrumentation & Control System Design

  • Design and develop instrumentation and control systems, including preparing instrument specs, loop sheets, and wiring diagrams.
  • Develop P&IDs, control philosophy, and regulatory process control designs.
  • Specify and configure PLC and DCS systems (e.g., Allen Bradley, Emerson-Delta V, Yokogawa, Foxboro).
  • Prepare architectural network diagrams and control equipment specifications.
  • Develop datasheets, PLC control programming, and HMI configurations.

Project Management & Coordination

  • Estimate work hours, budgeting, scheduling, and reporting progress to ensure efficient and timely project execution.
  • You will collaborate with clients, plant teams, and construction personnel in this role to address instrumentation and control system needs.
  • Coordinate with local authorities to ensure compliance with industry standards, regulations, and permit approvals.
  • Supervise engineering and design teams, providing technical guidance and quality assurance.
  • Serve as a discipline leader, ensuring project deliverables meet quality and performance expectations.

Compliance & Standards

  • Ensure NFPA/70-NEC, IEC, ISA, and other relevant industry codes are adhered to.
  • Conduct quality control checks to ensure compliance with industry standards and project requirements.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Instrumentation and Control Systems or related discipline).
  • Minimum 10 years in front-end and detailed engineering design for heavy industrial plants.
  • A U.S. Professional Engineer (PE) license is required.
  • Experience in on-site implementation, commissioning, and troubleshooting of instrumentation and control systems.
  • Strong knowledge of digital and analog control systems.
  • Hands-on experience with PLC and DCS programming/configuration.
  • Proficiency in developing instrument specifications, loop sheets, wiring diagrams, and network architectures.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with international projects and multidisciplinary team coordination.
  • Willingness to travel to job sites as needed.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to interact with clients, project teams, and regulatory authorities.
