Our client, a Supply Chain/Manufacturing company that is backed by an Infrastructure Private Equity Firm (Based on Long Island) is looking to bring on a CONTROLLER

Summary/objective

The Controller is responsible for overseeing the accounting activities of the company, including accounting, reporting, budgeting, and internal controls. This role ensures the accuracy of financial statements, compliance with regulations, and the effective management of accounting resources. The Controller will plan and direct the daily accounting operations of the company.

Essential functions

  • Maintains a documented system of accounting policies and procedures; implements a system of controls over accounting transactions to minimize risk.
  • Oversees the production of periodic financial reports; ensures that the reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles or international financial reporting standards.
  • Recommends benchmarks that will be used to measure the company's performance.
  • Prepare and present accurate and timely financial statements, reports, and analyses.
  • Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and other relevant standards.
  • Oversee month-end and year-end closing processes.
  • Monitors and analyze financial performance against budget, providing insights and recommendations. Reports significant budget differences to management. Monitor
  • Ensure accurate recording of transactions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger entries.
  • Works with external auditors and provides needed information for the annual audit.
  • Implement and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure accuracy in financial reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, tax laws, and financial policies.
  • Conduct internal audits and coordinate with external auditors as needed.
  • Ensures compliance with local, state, and federal government requirements.

Supervisory responsibilities

  • Oversees the operations of the Accounting Department, which include accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, etc.
  • Leads and mentors the accounting team, including hiring, training, and performance evaluations.
  • Oversees training programs and identifies training needs.
  • Promote professional development and training opportunities for team members.

Required education and experience (education and experience based on requirements that are job-related and consistent with business necessity.

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration or a related field required.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls.

Preferred education and experience (preferred education and experience based on requirements that are job-related and consistent with business necessity.

  • Certified Public Accountant or Certified Management Accountant designation preferred.

Additional eligibility requirements (additional requirements such as certifications, industry-specific experience and the experience working with certain equipment.)

  • Industry experience or interest in aviation, supply chain or distribution.
