Controls Engineer Job Description:
Duties of a Controls Engineer • The responsibilities of the Controls Engineer includes designing, programming, developing and maintaining a broad range of electrical/electronic and mechanical systems or components by focusing on safety, economy, reliability, repeatability, sustainability and quality. • Project involvement from the conceptualization and detail of the design to completion, testing and commissioning. • Modify existing designs, products, control systems. • Create examples and models of products and systems. • Identify needs of the customer and develop solutions based on System7's approach to systems design. • Research correct solutions, estimate project timescales and costs. • Monitor and troubleshoot control systems including power control, motor controls, servo systems, process control systems, discrete and analog I/O, signal converters and transmitters and other devices. • Provide clear project direction through good interpersonal communications. • Evaluate engineering designs of logic and digital circuits, motor controls, instrumentation, and control system networks for implementation into new or existing automated, servo mechanical, or other electromechanical systems. • Transform electrical drawings into design specifications, applying principles of engineering, thermal and fluid sciences, mathematics and statistics. • Install and program computer hardware and machine software in microprocessor-based systems. • Fabricate mechanical, electrical, and electronic works and assemblies.
Work condition of a Controls Engineer • Work may be performed in an office setting or on the factory floor environment. Work hours may include significant amounts of overtime. • Team up with engineers to execute control system designs in industrial or other settings. • Maintain service reports, records, and feedback systems.
Educational Requirements of a Controls Engineer • This profession may require a background in the following science; electronics technology, electrical engineering, and mechanical engineering. (Bachelor's degree desired ). • 2-3 years experience preferred. • Must know how to use A-B RSLogix 500, RSLogix 5000, Studio 5000, FactoryTalk View ME, Microsoft Office, AutoCAD LT. • Good understanding of electrical, electronic and mechanical systems. • Strong knowledge of PLC, HMI, motion control, and drive programming
