Building Blocks Child Care Center Cook Position Summary: Box Butte General Hospital is looking for a passionate and skilled Dietary cook to prepare and serve nutritious, safe, and appealing meals for our children and staff at the Child Care Center. In this role, you will work closely with the Child Care Center Director on food purchasing and special events while ensuring the kitchen maintains the highest standards of cleanliness and safety. Key Responsibilities:
- Menu Planning: Develop weekly menus for snacks and lunches, ensuring they meet nutritional guidelines and accommodate food restrictions. Submit menus for review.
- Meal Preparation: Prepare high-quality meals and snacks according to established recipes and dietary guidelines, adjusting as necessary for nutritional value.
- Food Safety: Maintain food storage areas, conduct regular quality checks on food items, and document temperatures for refrigerators and freezers.
- Kitchen Maintenance: Oversee the cleanliness and organization of the kitchen, ensuring compliance with sanitation standards. Perform cleaning duties and document completion.
- Team Collaboration: Foster positive working relationships within the department and with other departments, contributing to a supportive and cooperative environment.
- Special Functions: Assist with meal preparation for special events and pick up supplies as needed.
Essential Functions:
- Work with minimal supervision while exercising good judgment and independent decision-making.
- Ensure attractive food presentation and quality.
- Accurately document meal statistics and maintain inventory records.
- Adhere to all facility and departmental policies and procedures.
Qualifications:
- Education:
- Required: High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- Preferred: Training in therapeutic diets and recent experience in a healthcare setting.
- Experience:
- Preferred: Two years of previous institutional cooking experience.
- Licenses/Certifications:
- Required: Conditional Serve Safe-Manager Certification within 6 months of hire.
- DHHS State of Nebraska Finger Prints and letter

- Reliable attendance and a strong work ethic.
- Infant/Child CPR and First Aid certification.
- Safety Training per Nebraska DHHS within the first year of employment.
- Completion of Nebraska Early Learning Guidelines Training within five years of employment.
