OverviewThe Vermont Psychiatric Care Hospital (VPCH) is seeking a Temporary Cook C to work at their Berlin, Vermont location. The kitchen prepares and cooks meals for patients in a 25-bed hospital setting. This position will participate in menu review and food production. The incumbent will assist with maintaining high standards of food quality, safety, sanitation, be comfortable operating slicers, knives, cleaning to include dishwashing, and lifting to 60 lbs. Other duties as assigned could be maintaining organization in walk in and dry storage and assisting with cleaning.

Environmental FactorsWork is performed in an institutional kitchen during an assigned shift. Incumbents must be able to operate cutters and slicers, handle knives, lift heavy weights (up to 60 lbs.) and work under conditions of high heat and humidity. Duties include supervision of institutional residents or inmates in work situations.
Minimum QualificationsHigh School diploma or equivalent AND one 1 year or more of experience in volume cooking.ORHigh School diploma or equivalent AND completion of a high school level culinary arts career preparation program.ORCompletion of a formal course in commercial food preparation.
Special RequirementsNote: Incumbents employed by Corrections must be trained and certified in the Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point HACCP within the first six months of employment.
