As of January 1, 2025, the new salary range will be $31,200-$46,991.00.This position is designated mandatory and must report or stay over during adverse weather events.This is a repost.Previous applicants do not need to reapply to be considered for this position.Caswell Developmental Center is seeking a knowledgeable cook to prepare meals for our residents. Work is performed in accordance with menus prepared and quantities provided by dietary management and supervisors for each meal and requires skill in determining cooking times for various food items to complete all portions of the meal at the prescribed serving time. Work is reviewed by a supervisor to ensure that food is prepared safely according to schedule, and that food waste is minimal.Work Location: DietaryWork Hours: 8:45 a.m. - 5:45 p.m. (every other weekend off)About the Department of Health and Human Services / Caswell Developmental Center:The NC Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is one of the largest, most complex agencies in the state, with approximately 18,000 employees. Qualified candidates must document on the application that they clearly possess all the following:* One year of experience in food preparation in a large or institutional kitchen; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.* General knowledge of methods of preparation and cooking of food in quantity lots.* Considerable knowledge of the uses and adaptabilities of various pieces of cooking. equipment used in commercial or institutional kitchens including kettles, convection ovens, convection steamers, braising pans, mixers, food processors, slicers, and deep fryers.* Basic knowledge of the standard tools, methods, and practices utilized to maintain food safety.* Basic knowledge and ability to maintain high standards of sanitation as outlined in the NC Food Code.* Ability to perform simple mathematical computations.* Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.* Ability to interpret and follow standard recipes and therapeutic modifications.Management Preference:High school diploma or GED.
