Position SummaryWant to apply your cooking skills to provide delicious and nutritious meals to Wisconsin veterans?Cook 1: This entry-level position performs quantity cooking in a food service program. Cooks at this level receive training in nutrition, cooking techniques, food quality, safety andsanitation. The position prepares and monitors high-quality food items, using appropriate methods to preserve nutrient content and produce an appealing flavor and appearance, proper texture and consistency. The incumbent also prepares food for special diets and guides the work of food service assistants. The incumbent applies expertise in nutrition, cooking techniques, and food quality, safety and sanitation standards and is responsible for maintaining compliance with these standards. The position also guides the work of team members at the Cook 1 level. A copy of the complete Cook 2 job description is available for reference.Salary InformationStarting wage for Cook 1 is $18.49 per hour, with additional compensation for nights, weekends, holidays and overtime.Starting wage for Cook 2 is $19.95 per hour, with additional compensation for nights, weekends, holidays and overtime.This announcement was updated on 01/03/2025 to correct information related to a sign-on bonus. The Cook position is not eligible for a sign-on bonus.Positions at both levels are eligible for an attractive employee benefits package.The Cook 1 position is in pay schedule-pay range 03-10 and the Cook 2 position is in pay schedule-pay range 03-11. For current State employees, pay on hire will be set in accordance with the Wisconsin Compensation Plan.The positions are not represented by a bargaining unit.Job DetailsThe positions work primarily Monday through Friday 6:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. or 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and every other weekend, Saturday and Sunday. The positions require availability to work a flexible schedule.Job duties require the ability to work in the conditions typically found in high-volume/large-scale food production.Due to the nature of the positions, WDVA will conduct a criminal background check prior to an offer of employment.Employment in this position is contingent upon passing a pre-employment tuberculosis (TB) skin test.Employees at this healthcare facility are required to report their COVID-19 vaccination status, whether vaccinated or not, and provide supporting documentation if vaccinated.
