JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Campus Recreation is looking for an experienced and dynamic person to join our team. Under the supervision and direction of the Assistant Director for Competitive Sports, the Coordinator for Competitive Sports will serve on a team responsible for the daily operation and management of club sports and intramural sports programming.
The Club Sports program promotes student development and participation in a wide variety of sports activities, provides opportunities for student competition at various levels of play, and fosters social connections and well-being. Campus Recreation currently has over 50 club sports, with over 2,000 student participants annually.
The Intramural Sports program is comprised of more than 25 sports, with over 7,000 unique participants per year. Activities are held in league, tournament, and individual formats, and participation offerings occur throughout the calendar year.
Specific position responsibilities include:
Oversee the proper execution of programmatic plans in accordance with Campus Recreation's mission, vision, and values.
Hire, train, schedule, supervise, and evaluate student employees; including supervisors, officials, and program managers.
Create and present training and leadership development materials for Club Sport officers and Competitive Sports staff.
Ensure the proper compliance with risk management processes and protocols for Club Sport and Intramural Sport participants. Maintain all risk management records according to department and University policy.
Review, update, and track all Club Sport records and documents from Club Sport officers, as well as all Intramural Sport records; including sport rules, staff certifications, team accountability documentation, etc.
Train, guide, and provide leadership opportunities to Club Sport officers on all contents of the Club Sports Officer Manual, policies, procedures, etc.
Manage payroll for Competitive Sports student staff.
Submit reservation requests for Competitive Sports programming; including Intramural events and Club Sports practices and competitions.
Ensure all programming is conducted in accordance with the University, department, NIRSA, and sport-specific association risk management standards.
Position Qualifications
A bachelor's degree or higher, plus three years of competitive sports management experience is required, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A master's degree in recreation, sports management, higher education, or a related field is preferred.
Demonstrated experience in student development is required.
Knowledge of safety and risk management practices as they relate to club sports, intramural sports, and facility management is required.
A working knowledge of software systems such as IMLeagues and WhenToWork, or similar, is preferred.
This position requires that you operate a motor vehicle as a part of your job duties. A valid driver's license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to standard background checks.

Campus Recreation is a department within the Division of Student Affairs that provides recreation and well-being programs to the campus community through theoperation and administration of the following: Intramural Building, McCoy Natatorium, Stone Valley Recreation Area, Tennis Center, White Building, Hepper Fitness Center, Aquatics, Club Sports, Fitness and Wellbeing, Intramural Sports, and Outdoor Adventures. Campus Recreation is comprised of 46 full-time staff and more than 700 student staff members.
The salary range for this position, including all possible grades is:
$46,400.00 - $67,300.00Salary Structure - additional information on Penn State's job and salary structure.
