What You'll Do The Coordinator for Veteran's Programs (CVP) will report to the Dean of Student Financial Services and provide outreach for SPSCC Veteran's and education programs and other networking opportunities to neighboring military bases and other community partners. In addition, the Veteran's Support Manager will act as the lead for SPSCC staff and a mentor for SPSCC student veterans within the new Veteran's Center. The VSCM provides back-up support as necessary to the VA Program Specialist supporting the certification of Veteran's benefits for SPSCC students and their families. The Coordinator of the Veteran's Program's (CVP) main goal is to lead outreach in the military community for SPSCC veteran's programs, the SPSCC Veteran's Center, and veteran's students in growth and engagement on campus and across the military and South Sound community. Major outcomes produced will culminate in a thriving and engaged veteran's center that is active in providing opportunities for networking and connecting stakeholders and resources in the military community to SPSCC veterans' students. Effective leadership in this position encompasses facilitating mentorship to veteran students and systematically increasing knowledge and support of the center across military communities. The CVP will act as a conduit for encouragement and recognition of SPSCC veteran students and the work and achievements they bring to the SPSCC campus. This position will contribute to an intentional, robust foundation of campus veteran's programs and a veteran's center that prioritizes student success for veterans seeking to pursue their education in the South Puget Sound region. Essential Function- Act as the primary source outreach and recruitment for SPSCC veterans' programs and act as primary leadership within the Veteran's Center, mentoring veteran's students, coordinating programs and events for the SPSCC community and arranging and attending meetings with campus stakeholders, community agencies and other interested parties that support the administration of veteran's programs and benefits for the SPSCC veteran's community and their families. Tasks include: Outreach and Recruitment
  • Serve as college liaison and coordinate representation at local community organizations, school districts, military and government agencies as related to recruitment/outreach events and activities.
  • Identify trends and best practices for military outreach through literature review, research, and campus visitations.
  • Provide support and outreach that fosters high-level community and campus relationships with federal and state level installations such as JBLM and other military bases and Veterans Administration and other agencies, and encourages networking, and building internship and professional mentoring opportunities for students.
  • Collaborate with the Coordinator of Outreach and Recruitment to develop effective recruiting strategies that specifically impact veterans and veteran's programs and ensure appropriate representation at outreach events both on and off campus.
  • Develop and coordinate campus and community events that highlight SPSCC's commitment to veterans and veterans' services, including supporting veterans' holidays and other important military proceedings that honor and connect the veteran community to SPSCC.
  • Act with consummate professionalism and enthusiasm in representing the SPSCC campus community and student veteran's community in a myriad of environments, including education and military conferences, military ceremonies, military bases, and other outside agencies and community events.
  • In collaboration with the PR Department, work to develop and implement college social media policies and plans relating to recruitment and outreach to veterans and their families and communication of campus information to current veteran students and their families.
Leadership and Supervision
  • Oversee and foster the development and growth of the Veteran's Center, its staff, and the students and alumni who work within or visit the space.
  • Encourage and foster the professional development of veteran's center staff and VA work-study students, assessing staff-identified goals and communicating professional development opportunities.
  • Act as a liaison for Veteran students and their families in accessing and utilizing multiple campus resources and support services.
  • Provide exceptional service to staff, students, stakeholders, and others who inquire about veteran services at SPSCC or visit the Veterans Center.
General Duties and Tasks
  • Support and assist in the administration of veteran's benefits, including certification, audits, reporting and re-certification processes, and other requirements necessary to effectively administer veteran's benefits.
  • Assist with ensuring appropriate and accurate budget expenditures for veterans' needs within the department, at the Veteran's Center, and across campus.
  • Provide SPSCC campus leadership with knowledge of trends that impact veterans and advocate for holistic support of veteran's student needs.
  • Develop assessments of the needs of veteran's programs and work with institutional resources and/or campus committees to identify critical functions/services that need to be available to support student veterans and/or their families.
  • Research and provide statistical information regarding veteran's student enrollment, success, retention, or other metrics as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications You Possess Required Education, Experience, and Competencies. A Bachelor's degree in a related field or program AND two years of professional experience in the field OR four years of responsible supervisory and/or administrative experience in a related field. Preferred/Desired Education, Experience, and Competencies.
  • Master's Degree in a related field or program from an accredited college or university
  • Effective leadership communicated with exemplary professionalism, respect for self and others, and excellent service to students and constituents encountered at the college and in the community.
  • Experience working within military-related populations; experience working with military-related programs and benefits.
  • Experience building partnerships with outside organizations and/or educational institutions.

  • Ability to assess and analyze systems, provide statistics and metrics supporting change and provide solution-oriented outcomes.
  • Self-awareness and commitment to growth, ensuring the ability to engage in self-reflection and understanding how personal thoughts, beliefs, values, and actions affect themselves and others around them.
  • Strong organizational skills, ability to work independently and prioritize multiple tasks, maintain office confidentiality, and accommodate numerous projects and interruptions.
  • Collaborative, working in culturally diverse groups toward common goals, listening, valuing, including, and involving others' voices or contributions.
  • Advanced knowledge of computers and software applications, specifically, ctcLink, Veteran's administration programs and systems, Smartsheet, Lucid chart, MS Office suite: Teams, Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access.
