Under the guidance of the Assistant Dean of Students for Orientation, Transition, and Family Programs, this role is vital in creating a welcoming and engaging environment for new students and their families, integrating them into the vibrant SDSU community. The coordinator will be responsible for planning, organizing, and executing a variety of programs, including orientations, Welcome Week(s), Aztec Nights, Family Weekend, and more. In addition, this role supports the Coordinated Care Advising model on our campus by serving as a Coordinated Care Advisor for part of their role.Key Responsibilities:
  • Program Development and Execution: Plan and coordinate programs for new students and their families, fostering their integration into the SDSU community.
  • Event Management: Oversee the organization and execution of orientations, Welcome Week(s), Aztec Nights, Family Weekend, parent and family meetings, and additional programs as assigned.
  • Coordinated Care Advising: Serve as a Coordinated Care Advisor to first and second years to support their holistic development and success.
  • Community Engagement: Act as a liaison between students, parents, families, faculty, staff, potential donors, and other community members, ensuring effective communication and engagement.
  • Innovative Initiatives: Assist in developing new programs and initiatives that enhance the student and family experience at SDSU.
  • Administrative Support: Provide support in various campus-wide programs, demonstrating excellent organizational and communication skills.Qualifications:
    • Proven ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, families, faculty, staff, and community members.
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including public speaking.
    • Proficiency in desktop publishing and word processing.
    • Strong organizational skills, creativity, and a collaborative spirit.

        • This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible, permanent/probationary position.
        • Position is designated exempt under FLSA and is not eligible for overtime compensation.
        • Standard SDSU work hours are Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.
        • The individual hired into this role will work on campus at SDSU in San Diego.
        • Ability to work late hours, evenings and weekends.Education and ExperienceEquivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration or a job-related field. Additional specialized experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.Possession of these knowledge and abilities is typically demonstrated through the equivalent of two years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas or in a related field; experience should give evidence of competence and indicate the potential for further growth. A master's degree in a job-related field may be substituted for one year of the professional experience.Key Qualifications
          • Thorough knowledge of the theories, practices, and trends of Student Affairs and Student Development models.
          • Working knowledge of other student and academic affairs departments including Associated Students, Residential Education, Student Rights and Responsibilities, Educational Opportunity Programs, Outreach and Success, Counseling and Psychological Services, Career Services, Student Disability Services, International Student Center, Enrollment Services, and Office of the Registrar.
          • Demonstrated ability to create programs that are responsive to a diverse and multicultural environment.
          • Ability to develop and maintain cooperative working relationships with a variety of individuals with diverse priorities and motivations.
          • Proven commitment to ethical and appropriate use of resources.
          • A high degree of initiative, judgment and resourcefulness in carrying out assigned areas of responsibilities.
          • Strong commitment to working as part of a team.
          • Ability to work late hours, evenings and weekends.
          • Experience advising, planning, organizing, and executing large scale events to welcome new students and parents in a university setting.
