OverviewMid Michigan College seeks individuals who: value collegiality and mutual respect; use data in decision making; are innovative; are service minded; are goal oriented; strive to continually improve themselves and their work processes; are willing to collaborate and seek to add value in every interaction.This full-time faculty position includes responsibility for the development, implementation, management, and effectiveness of the Medical Assistant (MA) Program, Allied Health (ALH) and Health Education (HED) courses. The coordinator is responsible for meeting state, private sector, and institutional accrediting agency regulations. The teaching load will consist of both instructional and non-instructional time, with the non-instructional time to consist of coordinating the MA Program and working on program development and implementation. The academic calendar for this position is extended through the summer semester to allow time to accomplish tasks associated with the success of the MA program. Assignments may be at both the Harrison and Mt. Pleasant campuses.ResponsibilitiesTeaches a variety of ALH courses. Prepares competency-based objectives and outcome measures for the MA Program and ALH/HED courses. Regularly reviews and updates curricular offerings; develops and updates syllabi in the MA Program and ALH/HED courses. Utilizes instructional plans, directs, and assesses student progress in achieving theory and performance requirements of the program. Develops appropriate assessment tools to determine course effectiveness and assures that student outcomes are achieved. Participates in assessment of student learning outcomes and works collaboratively with other departmental faculty on projects aimed at assessing and improving courses and programs. Responsible for maintaining national accreditation for MA program. Reviews, selects, and orders course textbooks and other instructional materials (including laboratory supplies) for the MA Program and ALH/HED courses. Maintains and reports appropriate classroom records (e.g., grades, attendance, etc.). Maintains appropriate office hours for assisting students. Assists in academic advising, curriculum/program development, recruitment, and retention. Assists with class schedule building for ALH and HED discipline areas. Develops, maintains, and submits in a timely manner a database including pass/fail, attrition, graduation, and performance rates on state and national certification examinations. Mentors and serves as liaison with adjunct faculty who teach ALH and HED courses and maintains regular communication with the Dean of Health Sciences. Works collaboratively with other faculty, administrators, and staff members. Coordinates the MA Program and ALH/HED courses. Serves as site coordinator for externship placement of students in the MA Program. Conducts a minimum of one site visit during each MA's student externship. Develops and maintains an advisory committee and meets at least bi-annually with coordinators and directors for the MA Program. Serves as liaison to employers, high schools, and professional associations; attends and participates in departmental and internal committee/task force meetings as assigned. Supports and serves as a role model for our mission, vision, strategic and service Adheres to the organization's policies & procedures and compliance guidelines. Per the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (Clery Act), a federal consumer protection law, your job position entails functions that meet the definition of a Campus Security Authority (CSA). CSAs have a duty to report any crime to the College's Clery Compliance Officer. This information may be disclosed to them directly, through third-party, or witnessed. As a CSA, you are required to complete annual training which is provided by the College. This training encompasses your role, responsibilities, and reporting obligations. Performs other duties as assigned.QualificationsKnowledge, Skills, Abilities:* Strong organizational skills.* Effective skill level to maintain electronic database of student clinical/program requirements (ie. Admission applications, background check, urine drug screen, immunizations, etc).* Excellent interpersonal, coaching, and mentoring skills.* Ability to develop, lead, and facilitate meetings.* Knowledge of MA Program and ALH course requirements and related employment opportunities.* Ability to develop course objectives and student outcome measures.* Ability to teach and commit to student learning at the community college level.* Computer and educational technology skills.* Must have received instruction in educational theory and techniques.* Knowledge of course content, evidenced through education and/or experience.* Effective skill level in directing and evaluating student learning and laboratory performance.* Ability to develop and maintain partnerships to advance the MA profession.Education, Certification, Licensure:* Bachelor's degree required, preferred degree area of Business or Health Administration.* Master's degree preferred.* Credentialed in Medical Assisting by a nationally accredited credentialing organization such as NCCA, CMA (AAMA), RMA is required.Experience:* Minimum of three years of experience in healthcare, including a minimum of 40 hours of experience in an ambulatory healthcare setting performing or observing administrative and clinical procedures of medical assisting is required.* Experience teaching at the postsecondary level required.* Distance education experience, in addition to traditional teaching experience, preferred.Working Environment:* The job responsibilities of this position are performed in an office environment which requires a professional image and demeanor, on-time attendance and reliability. The environment has minimal, if any, discomfort due to heat, cold or dust. There is minimal noise within the environment.* Travel to other campus locations is required.* Travel for conferences/training/workshops is required.* Duties are performed in an independent atmosphere without close direct supervision.* The job has intermittent periods during which continuous physical exertion is required, such as walking, standing, sitting, stooping, bending, climbing, lifting material or equipment, some of which may be heavy or awkward (5- 45 pounds).* Must meet reasonable and sometimes shifting deadlines, quotas, or demands for accuracy, and may occasionally be involved in sensitive conversations with students or staff members.* Typical work schedule is 8:00am - 4:30pm with flexible or extended hours as needed by department demands.Note: This job description is intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by a person assigned to this job.
