Job Title: Copy Editor

Location: Onsite Monday-Thursday, Remote on Fridays

Duration: Short-term temp role (Approximately 4 months: 3/24/25 - 7/28/25)

Pay Rate: $38.71/hour W2, 40 hours/week

Job Description:

We are seeking a skilled Copy Editor to join our editorial team. The ideal candidate will have a strong command of grammar, punctuation, and English usage, with experience working in print and online publishing. This role requires strict adherence to the company's Style Manual and involves copyediting feature stories, department pages, and accompanying text for the company's magazine, history magazine, and themed bookazine publications.

Key Responsibilities:

• Copyedit assigned articles, captions, and accompanying text for print and online publications.
• Ensure consistency with house style, following Merriam-Webster (not AP or Chicago Manual of Style).
• Oversee the copyediting process for assigned articles while managing workflow and production deadlines.
• Perform final proofreading of articles before publication.
• Work collaboratively with editorial teams to refine content.

Qualifications:

• Minimum of 5 years of copyediting experience in magazines or newspapers (will consider candidates with 2-3 years of strong experience).
• At least one year of experience in an online publishing environment.
• Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Communications, or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Familiarity with print publishing platforms such as K4, InDesign, and InCopy.
• Experience working with online content management systems.
