Job Summary

This is a supervisory and participatory commissioned position providing general law enforcement and service-related duties for a Board of Regents Institution. Work involves supervision of police officers, dispatchers, and campus safety officers. This includes assigning tasks, analyzing and evaluating officer's reports, and participating in officer training programs. Requires thorough knowledge of federal, state, university and departmental laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures. Must demonstrate the ability to exercise independent judgment and decision making within limits prescribed by laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include the following: Provide direction to promote organizational goals and objectives.; Provide general law enforcement duties in the protection, safety and welfare of persons and property under the jurisdiction of the Board of Regents by enforcing Georgia Law and making arrest when necessary.; Plans and directs work assignments of officers on shift as delegated by the sergeant.; Writes reports, analyzes workloads and plans work schedules as delegated by the sergeant.; Patrols assigned area or event, while observing and instructing officers.; Responds to major calls or emergencies to direct or assist officers as needed.; Provides leadership in the absence of the sergeant.; Enforces departmental policies and procedures as a supervisor of the other officers.; Assists in the training and evaluation of new officers in the Field Training Program.; Reviews and coordinates information from officers and communicates with superior officers as needed.; Inspects the equipment and appearance of subordinate officers.; Relays and explains special orders and information.; Accurately assess and documents police officers' performance in the field.; Confers with officers regarding case problems. Prepares and coordinates public relations programs in conjunction with the shift sergeant.; Testify in court.; Investigate crimes against persons and property.

Required Qualifications

Required Qualifications include: High School diploma or Georgia State accredited GED certificate required, associate degree or higher preferred.; Must have a valid driver's license.; Must be a Georgia POST certified peace officer as Defined by O.C.G.A. 35-8-8.; Must be able to successfully complete a Georgia POST certified or recognized supervision training course or a recognized Georgia POST Field Training Officer course.; Must have 2 years' experience as a sworn peace officer in which the authority to enforce the criminal and traffic laws was vested through the power of arrest.; No felony convictions or crimes of moral turpitude.; May be required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds without help.; Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus. 20/20 or 20/20 corrected.; Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with hearing disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Physical Demands include: Must be able to push disabled motor vehicles out of roadways.; May be required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds without help.; Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Proposed Salary

The annualized salary for this position is $51,000 and includes full benefits.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities include: Knowledge of applicable laws, rules and regulations of federal and state government.; Knowledge of applicable institutional and departmental policies and procedures.; Knowledge of general law enforcement procedures.; Knowledge of campus property and facilities locations.; Knowledge of jurisdictional boundaries.; Skill in interpersonal communication, both written and oral to effectively interact with the public on all levels pertaining to university police service.; Skill in counseling, leadership, time management, and priority setting calls for service.; Skill in handling difficult persons or situations under stressful situations.; Ability to make effective decisions in emergency and non-emergency situations.; Ability to observe situations objectively and analytically.; Must have current valid driver's license.; Must be able to directly supervise the work of subordinates.; Ability to meet specific physical requirements that may be established by competent authority.; Skill in the use and care of firearms.; Skill in first aid training.
