JOB SUMMARY
Responsible for the review of inmate mail to include, written, legal and electronic communications. This position will have ongoing interaction with the inmate population by daily distribution of inmate legal mail and newspapers. The incumbent will screen both incoming and outgoing electronic mail, on occasion hard copy mail, to ensure unauthorized content is restricted from entering or exiting the facility. Responsible for screening and disseminating all incoming telephonic, electronic, and written communications from the public, and internal departments. Greets and welcomes visitors to the Prison as needed.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
Reports directly to the Director of Adminstration
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
* Daily interaction with the inmate population
* Daily interaction with the public, internal County departments as well as external law enforcement agencies.
* Screen all incoming and outgoing inmate mail, both electronic and hard copy to ensure compliance with local and state policy regarding content
* Screen and disseminate all incoming telephonic, electronic, and written communications based on subject matter
* Ensure all communications are addressed professionally and in a timely manner
* Greets and welcomes visitors to the Prison as needed.
* Ensure incoming and outgoing mail does not contain threatening, obscene, or other prohibited content or items
* Responsible for sorting and delivery of incoming newspapers
* Process and delivery of inmate legal mail obtaining proof of delivery from inmate
* Using inmate case management system, enter related data pertaining to delivery of inmate legal mail
* Review and respond to electronic inmate inquiries pertaining to inmate mail
* Responsible for delivery of inmate indigent kit
* Establish and maintain working relationship with inter-departmental supervision
* Assist in assembling information as needed for inmate investigation
* Ensure compliance with Title 37
OTHER SPECIFIC TASKS OR DUTIES
Assist other business office duties as needed
Process and deliver incoming personal property (contacts, eyeglasses, etc.) to inmate population
Perform other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High School diploma or equivalent
Bilingual skills with the ability to read and interpret Spanish preferred
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Computer literacy with the ability to adapt to new software
Ability to adapt to surroundings
Excellent interpersonal skills to include written and oral communication
Must be security conscious
Ability to understand and interpret detailed written and verbal communications.
Ability to work with minimum supervision
Ability to pay close attention to details
Must be comfortable working with a diverse inmate population
Ability to complete a one-week Security Training Program

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
Must be able to work in an environment that is not climate controlled
Sedentary work, with lifting/carrying of objects with a maximum weight of twenty (20) pounds.
Requires very coordinated dexterity of fingers/hands; arms/legs/torso as necessary to carry out job duties
Must have agility to be able to move frequently throughout the facility
Works with average exposure to stress
This position has been identified as having the potential for exposure to Hepatitis B. Access to training and a voluntary vaccination against Hepatitis is provided
