Summary/Objective
Provides occupational therapy treatment supervised by and under the written treatment plan of a licensed occupational therapist. Provides high quality professional health care to patients/families in the outpatient, inpatient or home environment under the direction of the registered occupational therapist. Provides and directs occupational therapy services to a caseload of patients and their families through direct care and interdisciplinary coordination.
Essential Functions

* Provides medically prescribed occupational therapy services to patients who require such care in hospital, clinic or home setting; therapy services may include performing occupational therapy procedures, ongoing evaluations and diagnostic tests.
* Conducts an ongoing assessment of the patient and the patient's home, if applicable, resulting in proper development of the therapy plans, modification of equipment, appliances and the physical environment as directed by the occupational therapist.
* Serves to plan and implement comprehensive therapy programs and evaluates results by interpreting the prescribed occupational therapy program to patients and families.
* Observes patient progress towards goals in collaboration with the patient and family.
* Assists the families to accept responsibilities for providing the prescribed care whenever possible.
* Teaches appropriate treatment procedures and supportive activities to patients, family members, IMH home health aides and other professional paraprofessionals involved in the patient's care; utilizes, established, available patient education, principles guidelines and resources; assess effectiveness of patient/family teaching toward fostering independence in self care activities of daily living (ADL).
* Instructs and supervises the operation of necessary equipment such as splints, wheelchairs, adaptive ADL devices, etc.
* Orders equipment and supplies in a timely manner to assure the department OT area has necessary items on hand.
* Participates in ongoing patient assessment; shares professional opinion of patient's progress with the occupational therapist and case manager through care conferences, provides input to the occupational therapist to modify the care plan as necessary.
* Cooperates with IMH Home Health and interdepartmental services, medical care, community resources and resources within the home in executing the patient/family care plan.
Education/Experience Requirements
* Associates in Applied Science
* One year geriatric occupational therapy experience preferred.
Licenses/Certifications
* Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant License.
* Current BLS certification.
