Job Description :
Overall Purpose To Provide support and assist students in their chosen academic pathways; providing course curriculum, information and recommendations to students, parents, and guardians; and assisting in the development of goals and plans for achievement. By utilizing leadership school counselors promote student success, provide preventive services, and respond to identified student needs by implementing a comprehensive school counseling program that addresses academic, career, and development for all students.Essential Functions
  • Develops, implements, monitors, and evaluates short and long range guidance programs based on developmental needs of students, needs assessments, school, system and state priorities.
  • Available to students, parents and staff for conferences according to system policies; serves as advocate for students.
  • Prepares, maintains, and files complete and accurate required reports promptly.
  • Establishes and follows procedures for appropriate intervention in accordance with school system, and state laws, rules and policies.
  • Recognizes overt indicators of student distress or abuse and takes appropriate intervention,referral or reporting action.
  • Provides crisis intervention services including follow-up services as appropriate.
  • Facilitates home-school-community communication by such means as holding conferences, telephoning and sending written communications.
  • Establishes an effective working relationship with outside services and makes appropriate referrals for psychological, social work, health, and community services.
  • Reviews student records and indicators; portfolio assessment, professional team interaction and analysis reports, documented parent interaction, student discipline records and others as deemed appropriate by the System guidelines to evaluate student needs; plan program.
  • Provides personal/social growth counseling (individual and group) concerning academic success, understanding of self and others, communication skills, decision-making, relationship skills, conflict resolution, goal setting, and effective coping skills necessary to refuse participation in substance abuse and physical violence.
  • Monitors to ensure that student growth/achievement is continuous and appropriate for age group and subject program classification.
  • Maintains confidentiality of students and other professional information.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
Requirements Valid Georgia professional certification in the assigned service field. Physical Requirements Occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 20% sitting, 40% walking, and 40% standing.Education/Training Maintains all licenses and certifications.Clearances Criminal Background Check FLSA Status/Work Calendar Exempt/Elementary-190, Middle School-200, High School-210
