Reports To: Principal Salary: Based on salary schedule for 207 days. FLSA Status: Exempt Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of personnel. Qualifications:
  • Master's degree from an accredited educational institution.
  • Valid Alabama Teacher's Certificate endorsed in the relevant subject area..
  • Previous Counseling experience is preferred.
  • Must complete a criminal background check through the Alabama State Department of Education at your own expense.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the board may find appropriate and acceptable.
  • Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Develops, implements, and evaluates an annual local school guidance and counseling plan in accordance with standards set forth by the State Plan and commensurate with the local system plan.
  • Collects, organizes, and analyzes information about individuals through records, tests, interviews, and professional sources, to appraise their interests, aptitudes, abilities, and personality characteristics, for vocational and educational planning.
  • Consults with parents/guardians, teachers, and staff about the special needs of students and makes appropriate referrals.
  • Administers tests, and analyzes and interprets test results to provide information about educational, vocational, and personal/social needs.
  • Assists with placement and follow-up services for students.
  • Assists students in building self-esteem and developing decision-making, problem solving, and positive human relations skills.
  • Develops personal professional growth plan and demonstrates professional ethics and leadership.
  • Assists students in selecting programs of study to enhance career planning.
  • Maintains comprehensive records and reports.
  • Exhibits positive human relations skills.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in written and oral communications.
  • Complies with local, state, and federal policies, regulations, and laws affecting area of responsibility as well as the American School Counselor Association Code of Ethics.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of administrators, teachers, parents, students, and the general public.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to define problems, collect and analyze data to establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Perform such other duties as may be assigned.
