Job Description/Duties

The County of San Diego's Office of County Counsel has an immediate vacancy for a Deputy County Counsel – Employment Litigation to render legal services and perform legal assignments in an exciting and rewarding position. This position acts as an advocate on behalf of the County of San Diego and supports the County's Office of Labor Standards and Enforcement in accepting allegations of wage theft complaints for civil enforcement to help wage theft victims.

The County Counsel's Office generally supports remote teleworking and a teleworking schedule with a mix of in-office and remote work may be available for this position. The list generated from this recruitment will also be used to fill both full-time and part time positions.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

The ideal candidate is an employment litigator with experience handling public entity matters. Additionally, the ideal candidate has a working knowledge of California labor standards and enforcement, including wage theft, fair chance hiring, and workplace harassment laws. Must be an analytical thinker who is able to accurately articulate the critical issues in a case. Additionally, the ideal candidate has excellent legal research and writing skills, courtroom presence, and the ability to work in a supportive and professional team environment with other attorneys and support staff.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Must be an active member in good standing with the State Bar of California. To be considered for this position, please provide your CA Bar number or attach a copy of your California Bar Card to your application. Desirable experience includes an understanding of the structure of federal, state and county government, knowledge of general principles of contracting law, experience drafting contracts, interpreting statutes and regulations, and drafting legislation.

ALSO REQUIRED

A valid California Class C driver's license, which must be maintained throughout employment in this class, is required at time of appointment, or the ability to arrange necessary and timely transportation for field travel. Employees in this class may be required to use their own vehicle. Must have a reputation for honesty and trustworthiness. Misdemeanor and/or felony convictions may be disqualifying depending on type, number, severity, and recency. Prior to appointment, candidates will be subject to a background investigation.

Salary Range/Hourly Rate

$85,675.20-$131,123.20
