Job Description :
CONSTRUCTION LABORERS This position is responsible for performing various job tasks on hazardous and non-hazardous waste sites in the Santa Maria, CA area. Work performed on hazardous waste sites may include possible exposure to lead, PCBs, H2S, arsenic, and various other metals, chemicals, and conditions. Job tasks involve manual labor in various weather conditions.
  • 40-hour HAZWOPER training required
  • Per diem / living allowance and trips home.
  • Subject to a background check & physical/drug screen
  • Must be able to wear PPE when needed
  • Will require frequent and extended travel to project sites
  • Schedule M-F, occasional Saturdays

Project locations will vary depending on the assignment. Candidates can reside anywhere within the USEssential Job FunctionsSpecific job functions include, but are not limited to:
  • Perform tasks involving physical labor at earthmoving, remediation, heavy construction projects, and demolition sites.
  • Operate and maintain hand, power tools, and equipment of all types such as high-pressure washers (hot and cold), electric power tools, portable abrasive wheel tools, pneumatic tools, liquid fuel tools or equipment, power actuated tools, hydraulic power tools, skid steers, and a variety of other equipment and instruments.
  • Operate and maintain pumps, compressors, and generators to provide power for tools, machinery, and equipment.
  • Cleans construction site to eliminate possible hazards.
  • Lubricates, cleans, and repairs machinery, equipment, and tools.
  • Loads and unloads materials from trucks or trailers.
  • Signals equipment operators to facilitate alignment, movement, and adjustment of machinery, equipment, and materials.
  • Clean and prepare work areas, construct fencing, dig trenches, set braces to support the sides of excavations, clean up rubble and debris, paint, and various other labor intensive work activities.
  • Welding, cutting, or brazing.
  • Work in confined spaces including permit required confined spaces.
  • Knowledge of materials, machines, and tools, including their hazards, designs, uses, benefits, repair, and maintenance.
  • Assist with the preparation and review of Job Safety Analyses, observations, and other reports.
  • Promote the use of Stop Work authority.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Ability to meet deadlines and contribute to a positive, safe, high-quality culture in a fast-paced environment.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands:Physical demands commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job include, but are not limited to:
  • Most work is performed while standing or walking.
  • Must be capable of working under physical stress conditions such as heat stress and cold stress during various weather conditions and potential long workdays.
  • Possibility of frequent and prolonged use of respiratory equipment (i.e. half-face, full-face, SCBA, etc.)
  • Heat extremes when wearing certain types of PPE. Wear Level C and D PPE including cotton, Tyvek, chemical protective coveralls, eye and face protection, hand protection, etc. Potential for Level A and B PPE exists.
  • Working on elevations such as scaffolding, bridges, buildings, etc.
  • Expected to lift objects weight 1 to 25 lbs on a regular basis and may be required to lift objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Manual labor including materials handling, digging, and lifting as well as physically moving pumps, hoses and other equipment or materials.
  • Working in loud or noisy environments.
Environmental/Atmospheric Conditions:Environmental and atmospheric conditions commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job include:
  • Outside construction site.
  • Terrain is rugged and may be difficult to navigate.
  • Dusty and windy atmospheres.
  • Confined spaces.
  • Potential airborne exposures to dusts, mists, fumes, and vapors in concentrations not exceeding OSHA Permissible Exposure Limits (PELS) or other published occupational exposure limits.
Personal Protective EquipmentDifferent types of personal protective equipment (PPE) may be worn including, but not limited to hard hat, hearing protection such as ear plugs or muffs, eye protection such as safety glasses, goggles, face shield, etc., welders helmet, safety vest, various types of gloves including leather, Nitrile, latex, etc., steel toe boots, and various respiratory protection such as dust masks, half face and full face respirators, SCBAs, PAPRs, etc. may be required depending on site conditions. Protective coveralls including cotton, Tyvek, fire retardant, chemical protective, etc.QualificationsKnowledge: Must possess and demonstrate skills to safely operate various types of equipment, tools, mechanical devices, and is knowledgeable of their uses and limitations. Experience: Previous construction and/or hazardous waste work experience preferred. Education: HS Diploma or equivalent. Licenses/Certifications: HAZWOPER 40-hour training and current refresher.
