The role:
Are you looking to make a difference in transportation safety? Join our Policy, Data & Analysis Division as a crash data technician! In this role, you will examine motor vehicle traffic crash reports and populate information into the Crash Data System. This data is used by professional staff and external partners to prepare reports, develop and support safety countermeasures, plan safety construction projects, create legislative policies, track key performance measures, develop transportation safety plans and more. This is a rotational opportunity open only to state of Oregon employees in permanent positions and in good standing (limited duration and temporary employees not eligible). A day in the life:
Review and receive various data points for each crash, such as date and time, roadway elements and jurisdictional codes.
Review data entry errors, omissions or incompatible codes before validating and saving.
Access police and citizen traffic crash reports for evaluation from a document management system.
Collaborate with the coding team lead on technical questions.
Evaluate and interpret driver or officer narratives to code crash incidents.
Assign accurate coordinate values for crashes using a geo-coding application.
Transfer information from older hardcopy references to electronic references.
Retrieve special crash data statistical reports from the Crash Data System application.
Attend required technical training sessions and unit staff meetings.
Work in an office environment with hybrid work options available after training.

The salary range listed is the non-PERS monthly salary range. If you are already a participating PERS member or once you become PERS eligible, the salary range will increase by 6.95%.

Minimum qualifications:
Two years of general clerical experience that includes keyboarding, word processing, or other experience generating documents;
OR
An associate degree in any field;
OR
An equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience with data entry, technical data research, research concepts and converting written narratives to code elements.
Experience with strict production expectations and accuracy oriented work performance.
Experience with specialized software applications and Geographical Information Software System analysis tools.
Experience with data standards, importance of data consistency, quality assurance and quality checking.
Ability to understand and read engineering location references and calculate mile points.

Rotation details:
