The County of Riverside seeks candidates to fill positions throughout Riverside County. A list of eligible candidates will be established to fill current and future vacancies.

Riverside County Department of Waste Resources has several opportunities for Crew Lead Worker (CLW) assigned to the Operations or Waste Recycling & Traffic Control Divisions located at Badlands Landfill in Moreno Valley and/or Lamb Canyon in Beaumont.

The Crew Lead Worker will be tasked with leading and working side-by-side with Maintenance and Construction Workers, as well as work release program participants, in performing various daily tasks such as waste recycling, servicing appliances to remove hazardous components, directing landfill traffic, and enforcing safety rules and regulations at the landfill facilities. Additionally, the incumbent will be responsible for operating vehicles assigned to projects, including buses to transport personnel from one landfill to another, managing ABOP operations, handling gate fee services, and operating light and heavy equipment, including forklifts, water trucks, front-end loaders, skid steers, roll-off trucks, and dump trucks, as well as using other hand tools and power tools as required.

Competitive candidates will have experience working in a field crew setting on construction-related projects or grounds maintenance activities skilled in the operation and maintenance of tools, materials, and equipment used in construction or facility maintenance projects with the ability to lead and direct the work of others. Candidates in possession of a valid non-restricted Class A or Class B California Commercial Driver's License with a Passenger and/or Tanker endorsement are highly desired.

Schedule:

4/10, from 6:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with at least one Saturday worked per month (subject to change based on department needs). Incumbents may be required to travel to other locations throughout Riverside County depending on assignment/operational demands.

Possession of a valid California Commercial Driver's License Class A or B at the time of application is required.

MEET THE TEAM

The Department of Waste Resources serves the County's solid waste disposal needs by providing for efficient and effective landfilling of County non-hazardous waste, protecting the environment, and promoting recycling in order to ensure a safe and healthy community for current and future generations.

* Instruct and lead crew workers in work methods and practices on a variety of projects; maintain safety and security of job site.

* Operate a three-axle dump truck or other sized truck-type equipment in the construction, maintenance, and repair of public work facilities; operate dump truck or roll off truck to haul construction materials, recycled materials from landfill sites, supplies, and equipment; operate tank truck to spray water, oil and chemicals; may operate low-bed or trucks with trailers in hauling equipment or materials.

* Operate small tracked and/or wheeled motorized construction equipment (up to and including forklifts, backhoes, mowers, loaders, and a D-6-sized dozer).

* Evaluate efficiency and appropriateness of assigned duties, recommend improvements and report on progress of work to higher-level personnel as needed.

* Prepare and maintain accurate records on materials and equipment usage, and employees and work release program participants' attendance and behavior.

* Refer complaints, problems or issues to higher-level personnel.

* Work side-by-side with staff to perform waste recycling and traffic direction program duties.

* Operate equipment and vehicles assigned to projects including buses in transporting personnel.

Prepare a variety of reports including court-required documentation on attendance and participation.

Education: Graduation from high school or attainment of a satisfactory score on a G.E.D. test is required within six months of employment.

Experience: Three years in maintenance, construction, recycling, traffic direction, or other similar work which required at least occasional operation of construction equipment.

License: Possession of a valid Commercial California Class A or B Driver's License is required at time of application. Candidates must have the ability to obtain a Passenger and Tank endorsement within six months of employment.

This position has been designated by the Department of Transportation (DOT) as safety-sensitive, applicants are required to complete a DOT mandated alcohol and drug-screening. (A positive test or refusal to test during the past two years will disqualify an applicant from consideration for County employment). Reference checks from former DOT regulated employers are also required. Applicants must submit a Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) driving record prior to hire.

Employees in safety-sensitive positions are subject to DOT alcohol/drug testing in the following situations: random, reasonable suspicion/cause, return-to-duty, and post-accident.

Physical Requirements: The Crew Lead Worker primarily operates outdoors at landfill sites and is exposed to inclement weather, odors/fumes, insects/rodents, and other environmental conditions. Incumbents will only have access to a portable restroom and outdoor hand-washing facility at the landfill site. The responsibilities require independent mobility to stand, climb, reach, and move heavy materials such as bags or mechanical parts.

Knowledge of: The tools, materials, methods, and equipment commonly used in public works construction and maintenance; safety rules, operation, maintenance, capacities, and limitations of construction and maintenance equipment.

Ability to: Coordinate, lead and direct the work of others; perform a variety of maintenance and construction tasks; follow oral and written directions; prepare records, forms and documentation; prepare incident reports in a brief and concise manner describing material factors or evidence and events of the incidents; establish and maintain effective working relationships.
