Join the VDOT Team!VDOT's Bristol District is looking for a motivated individual to become our next Crew Leader - Structure and Bridge within the Wytheville/Grayson Bridge Crew. As Crew Leader, you will play a vital role in the repair, maintenance, and replacement of bridges and structures, ensuring the safety and reliability of Virginia's roadways.Core Responsibilities:•Provide on-the-job training and recommend additional training needs to the Bridge Superintendent.•Offer constructive feedback on crew performance.•Assist with record-keeping and administrative tasks.•Serve as back-up bridge supervisor and lead efforts to implement appropriate in-stream and environmental protection measures during all structural maintenance and construction activities.•Ensure proper traffic control to support bridge operations.•Lead and perform preventive maintenance and minor repairs on equipment and power tools.•Determine and demonstrate proper worksite protection techniques.•Operate all necessary equipment safely and skillfully to perform bridge-related construction and maintenance tasks.Additional Information:VDOT is an emergency response agency, and this position requires working outside of regular hours during emergency operations.Minimum QualificationsConsiderable knowledge of bridge maintenance methods, equipment, materials, safety practices and concrete finishing techniques.•Skill is use of hand, power and carpentry tools, concrete forming and finishing methods.•Ability to lead, direct and train others and provide technical direction and guidance to variety of skilled workers.•Skill in computers (MS Office) and basic knowledge of inventory procedures. Skill in operation of equipment used for highway and/or bridge maintenance.•Ability to perform physically demanding heavy manual labor, to work at heights, in and over water, around heavy traffic conditions, irregular terrain and other adverse conditions.•Ability to read, interpret and apply work zone safety and traffic control manuals.Ability to read and interpret bridge plans. Ability to perform mathematical calculations and measure/layout construction elements on bridges and culverts.Additional Considerations•Experience leading and training skilled workers.•Current possession - CDL.•Possession of crane operator certification.•Experience preparing reports, keeping records and using computers. Skill in welding and fabrication of steel components.
