REPORTS TO: Chief of Student Support ServicesJOB DESCRIPTION:The Crisis Response Care Worker plays a critical role in providing immediate support and intervention for students facing crisis situations. The primary focus is on supporting students experiencing behavioral and/or mental health crisis or emotional distress, with an emphasis on ensuring their safety and well-being. This individual will be part of the District Response Team and work closely with school administrators, teachers, families/caregivers, and other relevant parties to identify and address crisis situations promptly and effectively.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Crisis Intervention:
    • Respond promptly to schools regarding students experiencing behavioral, mental health crisis or emotional distress.
    • Assist with conducting assessments of students' behavioral or mental health status and risk factors, utilizing evidence-based screening tools and assessment protocols.
    • Implement immediate crisis intervention strategies to de-escalate volatile situations and ensure the safety of students and others present.
  • Case Management:
    • Assist in conducting thorough investigations into reported crises, gathering relevant information from various sources, including students, parents, teachers, and external agencies.
    • Assist in developing individualized care plans for students in crisis, in collaboration with relevant parties.
    • Maintain accurate and detailed documentation of all crisis interventions, assessments, and follow-up activities, adhering to established protocols and confidentiality standards.
    • Prepare incident reports and other documentation for school records, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaboration and Referral:
    • Collaborate with school staff, community agencies, and external service providers to coordinate comprehensive support services for students and families.
    • Assist with coordinating referrals to mental health professionals, community resources, or emergency services as needed for ongoing support and treatment.
    • Advocate for the needs and rights of students within the educational and social service systems.
  • Training and Education:
    • Participate in ongoing training and professional development activities to enhance knowledge and skills in crisis intervention, mental health first aid, and trauma-informed care.
    • Assist in providing training and support to school staff, students, and families on recognizing the signs of behavioral threat and mental health crises and accessing appropriate support services.
  • Bilingual Support:
    • Provide interpretation and translation services as needed to facilitate communication between students, families, and school personnel.
    • Ensure that linguistic and cultural factors are considered when assessing and addressing bilingual and multicultural students' needs.
    QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, counseling, or related field required; Master's degree preferred.
    • Relevant professional experience in crisis intervention, case management, or social services, preferably in an educational or child welfare setting.
    • Bilingual proficiency or multiple language proficiency are preferred.
    • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to establish rapport with diverse populations, including children, adolescents, and families.
    • Knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, and best practices related to child welfare, mental health, and crisis intervention.
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
    • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
    • Valid driver's license and access to reliable transportation.
    WORKING HOURS:This position will work 40 hours per week, 12 months per year. This position is full-time. This position is exempt, overtime pay is not entitled.SALARY: The current SCSD starting salary for this position is $72,100.
