Our District has one early learning center, 15 elementary schools, five middle schools and a high school program divided between two 9 - 12th grade campuses. The District encompasses portions of Waukegan, Beach Park and Park City.Why We Do This Work:The Waukegan Community Unit School District No. 60 has set an ambitious agenda for change, guided by the belief that all children, regardless of circumstances, can achieve at high levels and academic gaps can and will be eliminated with the support of teachers who deliver engaging, relevant, and academically rigorous instruction that excites students and instills a love of learning in them.The Crossing Guard is directly responsible to the Transportation and Crossing Guards Services Assistant Manager.Location: VariesResponsibilities:Essential Job Duties:* Ensures patterns of safe behavior on the part of children when crossing streets;* Prevents children from committing unsafe and unlawful acts while crossing at school crosswalks;* Informs motorists, through prescribed standard signals, that children are using the crosswalk and have a right to proceed;* Observes and reports incidents and conditions detrimental to the safety of pedestrians or motorists.Requirements:knowledge, Skills and Abilities:* Ability to work outside in varying weather conditions;* Ability to relate to and supervise children;* Must have a general knowledge of traffic safety, pedestrian, traffic laws;* Must be able to deal tactfully and courteously with school district officials and the public.Tools and Equipment:* All guards must wear a vest;* All guards must use a stop sign.Physical Demands: Regularly (100% of the day) standing and walking children across the street or intersection.Work Environment:* Regularly (100% of the day) outside in all types of weather conditions.Work Hours: 1 hour before school and 1 hour after school (when school is in session).Start Date: TBDAdditional Information: Applicants not hired as permanent crossing guards will be considered for substitute positions.
