DEADLINE FOR RECEIPT OF APPLICATION PACKET: Open Until FilledSCHOOL DISTRICTS 17H & 1 CLASSIFIED POSITION DESCRIPTION POSITION TITLE: Custodian FACILITY: District Office REPORTS TO: Superintendent POSITION OVERVIEW: The person in this position is responsible to keep the District Administration Office in such a state of operating excellence that there are no problems or interruptions to the business day. ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: Daily: Empty and clean trash and garbage receptacles Empty shredder Clean restrooms (toilets, sinks, counters) replenish supplies and fill dispensers Clean kitchen (wipe counter, clean & polish sink) replenish supplies and fill dispensers, swap out linens Dust, clean, polish furniture, files cabinets and woodwork Sweep, mop, scrub floors Vacuum rugs and carpets As needed: Sweep outside front entry area and sidewalk Clean front door inside and out & wash windows Shampoo rugs and carpets and wax floors Clean Microwave and refrigerator Clean vacuum regularly, wash the dirt container and filters at least monthly Keep tools and equipment clean and operational & custodial area tidy Wash kitchen towels & rags regularly Use chemical and cleaning solvents in a safe and effective manner Operate common power cleaning equipment and hand cleaning tools Maintain inventory of custodial / maintenance supplies and equipment Observe and report need for repairs Maintain work related records Secure building at end of shift Only minimum duties and responsibilities are listed. DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION / CERTIFICATION: High School diploma or equivalent SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES: Knowledge of methods, materials, and equipment used in cleaning various types of surfaces and furniture Ability to use chemicals & cleaning compounds in a safe manner Knowledge of basic safety practices related to custodial work Ability to perform heavy physical labor Ability to work effectively without close supervision Ability to operate specialized cleaning and maintenance tools and equipment Ability to understand and follow a work schedule Ability to keep basic work records and make reports Ability to understand and carryout oral and written directions and instructions Ability to maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work Ability to handle stressful situations Ability to effectively manage time and responsibilities Ability to maintain confidentiality of employee and student matters Ability to perform duties with awareness of District requirements and School Board policies EQUIPMENT USED: Cleaning and maintenance tools and equipment, including but not limited to vacuum, carpet cleaner, miscellaneous scrubbing equipment SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: none WORK ENVIRONMENT: While performing the duties of this position, the employee regularly works inside and may work outside. The employee must be able to meet deadlines with time constraints. The employee is frequently required to walk, stand, bend, stoop, kneel, crawl, stretch, push heavy equipment, lift and carry equipment and objects. The employee must be able to lift and / or move up to 50 pounds. Must have dexterity of hands and fingers to grasp objects. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee is required to be able to speak and to hear and to exchange information. While performing the duties of this position, the employee will often perform routine work. The employee frequently exercises flexibility (ability to shift from one task to another). The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Guidance and reinforcement are usually available. The employee may be involved in social interactions which require oral and written communications. It Includes the Crow and Northern Cheyenne Reservations. Hardin (county seat) is situated on the banks of the Bighorn River and the edge of the Crow Reservation. The town is surrounded by productive farms and ranches. Coal mining has also contributed greatly to the local economy. Hardin, is located 46 miles southeast of Billings (largest city in the State) by way of Interstate 90. The Big Horn County Museum, Little Big Horn Battlefield and Chief Plenty Coups State Park provide interesting and important history of the area. The scenic Big Horn, Pryor and Wolf Mountain ranges are part of the Big Horn County landscape. Yellowtail Dam offers a majestic view of the water below. The spectacular Big Horn Canyon National Recreation Area is host to water sports. This area of Big Sky Country also offers fishing, hunting, hiking, snowmobiling, camping, etc. for the outdoor enthusiast.
