TITLE: Custodian QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Demonstrated aptitude for successful completion of the tasks assigned.
  • The ability to communicate in verbal or written form.
  • Three written and verified references on file.
  • Previous training or experience preferred.
  • Valid Maryland driver's license.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
  • REPORTS TO: Head Custodian and Plant Operations SupervisorJOB GOAL: To provide students, parents, and teachers with a safe, attractive, comfortable, clean and efficient place in which to learn, play, and obtain an education.ESSENTIAL PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Cleans and maintains all areas of assigned responsibility including, sweeps, mops, wet-washes, buffs, burnishes, and vacuums floors.
  • Dusts furniture, cleans and polishes fixtures, washes windows, scrubs and disinfects toilet rooms.
  • Lifts and carries items in excess of 50 pounds on a regular basis.
  • Reports any unusual conditions or malfunctioning of heating, plumbing, or electrical system, as soon as they are discovered.
  • Conducts inspection of doors, windows, and gates to determine that they are secure.
  • Completes all preventive maintenance tasks as assigned.
  • Assists in ice and snow removal.
  • Complies with local and state laws in the storage and disposal of trash, rubbish, and waste.
  • Attends safety, maintenance, and custodial meetings as requested by Head Custodian, School Manager, Principal, or Plant Operations Supervisor.
  • Assists Head Custodian in checking fire alarm system and assumes responsibility for the general fire safety and general security of the building.
  • Performs emergency repair or cleaning services as necessary.
  • Keeps building clear of people not on official school business and assists law enforcement officers as directed by Principal.
  • Checks interior and exterior lighting.
  • Reports any violations of exterior parking rules and regulations.
  • Assists in the maintenance and care of the school grounds.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:Non-exempt position. Twelve month work year.
