Summary:The custodian is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, safety, and orderliness of Zoo facilities by performing various cleaning tasks such as sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, dusting, trash removal, and restroom sanitation, often using specialized cleaning equipment and chemicals, to ensure a hygienic and functional environment for occupants; they may also perform minor maintenance tasks as needed.Essential Job Functions:
- Keep building and property in clean and orderly condition.
- Performs routine maintenance activities.
- Performs heavy cleaning duties.
- Sweeps, mops, scrubs, or vacuums floors.
- Gathers and empties trash.
- Scrubs, sanitizes, and supplies restroom facilities.
- Dusts furniture, walls, and equipment.
- Cleans windows, mirrors, and partitions with soap and other cleansers.
- Mixes cleaning solutions and chemicals in containers in preparation for cleaning, according to instructions.
- Responsible for equipment, display and fixture inventory and maintenance.
- Ensures a positive guest experience by communicating with guests in a professional and courteous manner.
Minimum Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
Preferred Education and Experience:
- One year of relevant experience, or any equivalent combination of education and experience, demonstrates the applicant's ability to perform the responsibilities and requirements outlined above.
- Experience with using cleaning equipment, including vacuum cleaners, floor buffers, and cleaning solutions.
- Knowledge of occupational hazards safety rules.

Supervisory Responsibility: None.Reporting Structure: Reports to the Custodial Manager.Position Type/Expected Hours of Work: Full-time positions are defined as positions scheduled to work approximately up to 40 hours a week. Scheduling is at the discretion of the manager. This position regularly requires flexible hours including weekdays, holidays, and weekends including early morning, daytime, and evening hours to provide coverage during Zoo hours of operation and events.This position is considered non-exempt under the federal and state wage and hour laws. Work Environment: While performing the duties of the job, the employee will frequently work in alternate settings between indoors (office environment) and outdoors (Zoo grounds). When outdoors this position is required to work in various weather conditions including rain, humidity, and extreme heat or cold. This position has extensive interaction with the public.Physical Demands:The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
