The custodian cleans a building either alone or in conjunction with other custodians and/or students and may perform a variety of tasks or only certain designated tasks depending on the assignment. Custodial tasks include cleaning and sanitizing restrooms, trashing, dusting, window cleaning, carpet and floor cleaning and maintenance, and other periodic duties associated with maintaining the overall appearance and sanitation of the residence hall buildings. This position also includes cleaning during the morning, afternoon, and occasional weekend days. The custodian is responsible for assigning work, overseeing, and inspecting the work of the student custodial staff.Minimum RequirementsMinimum qualifications are not established for this classification. The appointing authority is responsible for recruitment and selection. Refer to Personnel Rule 105-43-005.Preferred RequirementsOne year custodial experience preferred, specifically within a public or school setting.Prefer experience with carpet and hard floor cleaning equipment such as extractors, scrubbers, and buffers, as well as the knowledge of proper procedures for carpet and hard floor maintenance.Essential FunctionsDuties - The following examples are typical work activities that are meant to illustrate the general range of work functions and are not meant to be all-inclusive or restrictive:(55%) Daily work may include one or more of the following:Cleans meeting rooms and arranges desks and chairs, cleans boards. Cleans offices. Dust mops / wet mops hallways and floors. Cleans, sanitizes, and stocks restrooms. Cleans shower/bathrooms in guest rooms. Cleans/prepares rooms for visiting guests. Cleans stairwells (inside and out). Vacuums / dust mops floors. Cleans windows. Trash and recycle inside and outside building. Maintains carpets by extracting, shampooing, etc. Maintains hard floors by scrubbing, buffing, stripping, and waxing.
